My Educational Philosophy
In my classroom, students will experience an energetic and enthusiastic teacher who
strives to instill a lifelong love for learning in every child. It is my mission to provide a
stimulating and supportive environment that will allow children to obtain their maximum
potential and grow physically, emotionally, intellectually, and socially strong. Enthusiasm is the
vehicle that will illuminate every activity which will lead children to catching it because I
strongly believe that enthusiasm is caught, not taught. Children are eager to learn, but it is
imperative to understand that every classroom presents a unique community of learners who
have their own set of strengths, interests, and perspectives to contribute to their learning
experiences. My role is to help guide and assist children in their quest of finding answers to their
questions. I aim to build positive, nurturing, and meaningful relationships with my children,
parents, colleagues, and agencies in the community who support students learning and wellbeing as much as I do. Ultimately, the relationship we develop with children today will help to
form them into the promising leaders of tomorrow.
To accomplish this goal, I will create an environment that promotes respect, creativity,
and individuality. In setting fair and consistent rules from the beginning, children will learn to
value and respect themselves, time, others, and their environment. Through class meetings and

the use of dramatic play, I will promote dialogue and the open sharing of ideas where students
acknowledge differences of all kinds and feel secure and free to express themselves in all aspects
of learning. My pedagogy stresses drawing connections that extend beyond the classroom.
Through dialogic readings, puppet shows, skits, and reenactments children will be exposed to
multi-cultural ideas and are able to develop a deeper understanding of the cultures in their
community. The children will learn valuable lessons such as being responsible and working
together as a team because much like in the real world it takes a community to generate change.
Nevertheless, children are thinking, moving, feeling, and interacting human beings who
need to feel valued and genuinely cared for. I plan on demonstrating patience and meeting
children where they are by creating a curriculum that revolves around childrens interests, and
use ongoing observations with a focus on strengths for assessment. I intend on incorporating a
variety of learning formats such as having different learning centers, clear consistent routines,
providing encouragement, and fieldtrips or visits to the library which will provide an inclusive
literacy rich environment for the children.
Like many philosophers such as John Locke, Jean Piaget, Friedrich Froebel, John Dewy,
and Maria Montessori I am a firm believer in the power and benefits of play during the early
years of a childs development. It is no secret that children of all ages love to play and this is an
excellent method of having both incidental and spontaneous learning because it gives them
countless opportunities for developing self-regulation as well as for promoting language
cognition, and social competence. Play advances the development of mental representation and
facilitates cognitive growth as children take on various roles and negotiate different perspectives.
There will be a range of activities in my room that allows children to work independently and
others where they work groups thus, building social skills.

By encouraging play in the classroom, children are able to follow multiple sequence
actions, rules, and focus their attention. Through play, I will model responsible behavior and
incorporate relevant themes and projects that will facilitate high quality learning. With the
incorporation of both open and closed materials children can be as creative as they want which is
my desired goal. I will recognize evidence of student learning through their language, behavior,
and actions in the classroom. Nonetheless, time management is an important skill that I will
employ in my room. Children need time to truly immerse themselves in learning if meaningful
learning outcomes are to arise. The heart of my vision is to see every child flourish in their own
abilities.
I seek to ensure that goals and experiences are suited to childrens learning and
development and challenging enough to promote their progress and interest. I intend on using
developmentally effective approaches to connecting with children and families such as:
embracing family diversity, sharing responsibilities and striving for an understanding of each
familys value. Like Johann Pestalozzi and Maria Montessori, I believe that the relationship
between the school and student is vital in the development of the child. Curriculum should be
developed in conjunction with childrens families and communities and be respectful of their
culture and home language.
The goal is to help children grow into their full potential as informed, engaged citizens
eager to make a contribution to their communities. I aim to bring consistency, enthusiasm, and a
positive attitude to my students and community in the trust that I will inspire and encourage such
traits in the children as well. To ensure that I provide care and high quality education I will
participate in ongoing professional development and do continuous self-reflections. We are

lifelong learners and like my children I am dedicated to learning all that I can in an effort to
provide the greatest education experience to children of all backgrounds.
