able to write the effects that bullying has on the characters then relate it to real life.
-Students will take a survey after the unit to see if the lesson has proven that
bullying has a negative effect
SMART goal:
By the end of this unit (3 lessons), students will be able to identify bullying, the
effects it has on the people involved, and have a logical reaction to terminate

bullying in school, so the discipline referrals will decrease by 10% in the 10 th grade.

Materials:
Projector or SMART Board, Paper, Pencil, Movies: Wreck it Ralph, Napoleon
Dynamite, and A Christmas Story and pre-written Survey

Procedure (should be specific and have a timeline):

Warm-up (7 minutes) When students enter, they will be given a paper that has
the question, Who does bullying effect and why? Student will write their answers on
the paper.
Class Discussion (15 minutes) Students will be lead in a class discussion by
teacher/counselor to discuss what bullying is, who it effects, and why does it affect
each person involved.
Class Activity (30 minutes) Students will watch 3 clips from movies, A Christmas
Story, Napolean Dynamite, and Wreck it Ralph. They will note the way bullying
effects the characters and come to a conclusion as to why the character is either a
bully or why the other character is being bullied.
Writing Assignment (20 minutes) Students will be given a sheet with questions
to be answered from the movie. 1. How closely did the movie match real life? Explain.
2. Did the bullying stop? If so, how was the situation resolved, and what message does
that send? 3. Did adults know about the bullying? If so, did they help? 4. Did peers know
about the bullying? If so, did they help? 5. Were any of the helpful bystander or adult
actions depicted? 6. What could have been done differently by adults? By peers? What
difference might these actions have made?

Class Discussion (10 minutes) Students will be led by teacher/counselor to

discuss the answers that they came up with for the questions from the writing
assignment.
Exit Ticket (8 minutes) Students will be given an exit ticket with the question,
Whos responsible for ending bullying in the school, the bully, the teachers, or the
administration staff (principal)? Why do you think that person is the most
responsible and how will you put an end to bullying in your school.

they can experience these lessons with a different group of kids.

Perception Data:

what bullying is and how it hurts people
Outcome Data:

Follow Up:

Three months after the lesson and survey have been conducted, teacher and
counselor will revisit the lesson to see if the discipline referrals have still
decreased and to continue to spread the word that bullying is dangerous.
