Growing plants through rotary hydroponics

1. The Rockwool cubes will be soaked in the nutrient solution. Rockwool cubes will be softly
squeezed reducing the liquid held by the block by approximately 10%.
2. A hole will be created on the rockwool cube for the seeds to be inserted. Three seeds will be
planted in each cube covered to a depth of about 1 cm.

Seeds introduced into the holes on the Rockwool cube.

3. Pechay seedlings will be watered everyday by adding nutrient solution. The plants will be
transplanted after 15 days or when the plant is already 2 inches tall.
4. The Rockwool cubes will be transferred to the growing tray after the plants have already sprouted
and have established a good root system through the rockwool. Each cube will only hold one
plant and the healthiest one should be chosen while others will be cut or removed.
5. The grow tray will be placed on the rotary hydroponic system.
6. The grow trays will be positioned upright from 6 am to 5 pm. The plants will be supplied with
nutrient solution through the pipes.

Position of plants from 6 am to 5 pm.

7. The plants will be positioned such that they will be facing the light source at the center with the
rotary hydroponic system rotating at 1 rev/hr from 5 pm to 6 am. They will be supplied with
nutrient solution using the substrate cyclic saturation technique. Spray the leaves of the Pechay
twice a day preferably at 12 noon and 3 pm.

Position of plants from 5 pm to 6 am.

8. The morphometry of Pechay will be checked everyday.
