English 1010- Reflective Writing

Reflective Writing
This assignment show my progress towards SLCCs college wide learning outcomes by
showing I can communicate effectively: Developing critical literacies-reading, writing, speaking,
listening-that they can apply in various contexts. Organize and present orally and in writing
according to standard usage. Gather and analyze information and communicate effectively using
technology, library-resources, and other media. Think critically: Reason effectively using
available evidence, and are aware that knowledge is dynamic and builds on new evidence and
alternative perspectives. Demonstrate effective problem solving. Engage in creative thinking,
expression, and application. Show high-order skills such as analysis, synthesis, and evaluation.
Make connections across disciplines. Develop the knowledge and skills to be civically engaged,
and/or to work with others is a professional and constructive manner. Understand the natural,
political, historical, social and economic underpinnings of the local, national, and global
communities to which they belong. Interact competently across cultures. Understand and
appreciate human differences.
My English Class connected really well with my communications class; because they
both teach how to bring your message across effectively. Everyone understand the meaning of
words but the way it is expressed can alter how the message is perceived by another person.
They both taught me to see from two points of view.

While taking this class, it changed my thought on the world. When writing papers, you
have to look deeper into a subject rather than what I normally do by just looking at the surface. It
taught me how not to be so superficial and look deeper into a subject. I needed to pay attention
more. I cant believe everything I hear or see. It definitely challenged me to get rid of my
assumptions or stereotypical thoughts that I had never really looked into but made and automatic
opinion.
To complete my assignments, I had to use; rhetorical strategies, critical thinking
processes, composing processes, and conventions of writing. Which involved adapting to
differences in purpose, audience and genre. Recognizing and utilizing rhetorical appeals (ethos,
logos, pathos, Kairos). Looking at all sides of the subject. Inventing, drafting, revision, editing,
peer feedback and self-assessment.
I faced a lot of challenges in this project overall because Im not very good with
technology. So I know mine probably isnt the best but it looks amazing in my eyes that I was
able to finish it.
This project demonstrated how in English 1010 you need to invent your idea and then compose it
the best way it will reach your audience. You need to look at things through everyones eyes to
best understand your audience and relate it to them.
This project demonstrates my progress with respect to the English 1010 course goals
because I believe it reflects all the goals of using rhetorical strategies, critical thinking,
composing and conventions. Overall explaining how I used the class to enhance my
communication skills.
