School District
Address
Anytown, USA
Dear Ms Jane Doe,
Your school district is a diverse, thriving community and I have had the pleasure of being
either in or around the district most of my life. My family members are lifelong citizens of the
community and spend much of their time and efforts here. As a member of our unique
community, I knew our school district would be no less than exceptional. This is evident from
the representation of several of the districts schools and programs as recipients of Distinguished
School awards, Golden Bell Awards, and Title I Academic Achievement Awards, as well as the
results of the statewide performance assessment in math and English language arts where your
districts students outperformed students in other districts in the county as well as additional
districts statewide. I am drawn to this district not just because I love this town, but because of the
mission statement of the district and its reflection in the excellent graduate education I have
received at the University. I have been immersed in a multi-cultural credential program that has
led me to appreciate me and value the diverse community of todays learners and has sparking in
me a desire to reach each one of them to help them realize the learning potential they have within
themselves regardless of their ethnic background or socioeconomic status.
I am currently finishing my multiple subject teaching credential with EL authorization,
(S.B. 2042), at the University. My preliminary credential will be submitted in December 2016
and in April of 2017 I will graduate with my Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning. The
credential program includes a solid Common Core foundation and I am well prepared to teach to
the standards in order to meet and exceed goals for my future district and school. I have also
been trained to design and implement a variety of assessment types to collect evidence of student
learning.
Throughout my current student teaching experience in the Anytown Unified School
District I have attended several district and school site trainings that have allowed me to see how
much this district values teamwork at the school sites and works hard to provide quality training
for its teachers. My experience thus far in the classroom, (I am currently in a second grade class
but am willing to teach any grade level), has allowed me to:
Design learning experiences for a range of ability levels and learning styles
Implement assessments that show mastery of learning goals and progress toward
meeting the state standards
Prepare students to take the district math and ELA assessments as well as
administer them.
Participate in an intensive phonics intervention and reading recovery intervention
as well as a lot of small group work.

My teaching credential preparation program also has a solid foundation in social justice,
and my own philosophy of education has been developed as a result of this. I believe all students
can learn, and that all students come to the classroom with diverse funds of knowledge that need
to be respected and accepted. Every child should be held to high standards and have access to
rigorous curriculum; differentiated academic experiences must be created in order to allow all
students to reach their highest learning potential.
During my program at the University, I have been well prepared with strategies for my
English learners and special needs students. However, many of these strategies can and should be
used for all students because they are excellent teaching practices; not every student has the same
learning style, so it is imperative to provide lessons that include visual, auditory, and bodilykinesthetic components. As a new teacher trained in the Common Core:

I also understand the value of technology in todays classrooms and its

importance for learning.
I highly value collaboration with colleagues and am eager to learn from others I
work with; being a team player is essential for promoting a positive school
culture.
I have the ability to work with anyone regardless of similarities or differences,
and I adapt well to change and any challenges presented to me.

My undergraduate degree in biology from Loyola Marymount University will assist me

in my future classroom because the principals of science are widely applicable to education:

Biology is grounded in inquiry, exploration, and critical thinking.

Education is also ever-changing and evolving.
Learning takes place through a student-centered focus that includes inquiry,
decision making, collaboration, and learning from mistakes.

Given my immense love and respect for this community, I have a desire to learn more
about our school district and perhaps a chance to share how I would support the districts goals
and missions. I aspire to join a learning community where I can contribute fresh ideas, not to
replace what works, but to add to it. I also want to be part of a district that values collaboration
and where I can learn and grow as a professional from experienced educators and administrators.
Sincerely,
Kristin R*******
