Bleeding Art Tissue, Sharpies, Sketchpad papers, paint brushes, Taj Mahal copies
PROCEDURE

Introduction (5 min)
Attention Grabber: Who is enjoying learning all about India?
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: What are some of the things you have learned so far?

Expectations for Learning and Behaviour: During art time it is ok to chat with your
neighbours at noise level 2. You should be in your seat and use hands up if you need
something. You would not want to ruin a friends art project by running around.
Transition to Body: Lets talk about the Taj Mahal.

Show some pictures !
Meaning: Crown Palace
Location: City of Agra (Show on map of India)
Made of: Pure white marble
What is it: Tomb (Mausoleum) and Mosque (Islam)
Commissioned by the emperor in 1632 in order to house the tomb of his favourite wives.
Took over 20 years to complete
Considered a World Heritage Site.
7 8 visitors each year (TOURISM)
Four minarets frame the tomb, one at each corner of the plinth facing the chamfered
corners
The Taj Mahal was constructed using materials from all over India and Asia. It is believed
over 1,000 elephants were used to transport building materials, 20,000 workers
28 different varieties of semi-precious and precious stones were used to adorn the Taj
Mahal with exquisite inlay work.

Instructions on Smart board. (bring in Samples)
Part 1: Cut out Taj Mahal; Trace it on your sketchpad with pencil. Using
water, stick on the pieces of bleeding art paper. Use warm on the
outsides and cool on the insides. Overlap is ok. Remind students
about respect. We are creating a replica of something very special.
Part 2: Peel off all tissue. (Should just call off). Using your cut out as
inspiration, trace the Taj Mahal in sharpie and fill in some details.
