News Analysis
In the Article Neanderthal inheritance helped humans adapt to life outside of Africa it
says that we human inherited good genomes from Neanderthals and Denisovan ancestors. We
inherited about 2% to 4% of their genomes. In a study, researchers used genome scale maps of
Neanderthal and Denisovan and found that in our genomes the archaic sequences exist at a high
frequency, reaching up about 65%. The genes humans got from Neanderthals or Denisovans are
important for our interactions with the environment. It helped our immune systems and skin
traits.
For those people have known or dont know anything about Neanderthals and
Denisovans, this is a surprised news for them because who would know thanks to our long-lost
hominid relatives we got good traits from them helping our immune system to defeat diseases.
This could be a spark for those individuals that curious about the Neanderthals and Denisovans,
after reading the article they start looking more into biology and probably study their origin. A
guy name Joshua Akey from the Univerity of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle was
mentioned in the article, he said that Our work shows that hybridization was not just some
curious side note to human history, but had important consequences and contributed to our
ancestors ability to adapt to different environments as they dispersed throughout the world, So
it shows that he is supporting his work but it is proved with studies that been done so it doesnt
alter the conclusion of the article.

The article didnt help much of showing a new study been done, it just gave an overview
of some small detail of us inherited some genomes from the Neanderthals and Denisovans and
that they helped with immune system and skin traits nothing much more. Before reading this
article I already knew from the material we learned in class and only videos that we inherited
some gene from them, they inhabited in Europe, spread across central Asia. At the same time
human population lived in eastern Asian and Africa, at that time, in some cases human and
Neanderthals had children together. It might be me that didnt fully understand the article but
reading out of it I didnt get much information of the new study.
In conclusion, the article tells something new a lot of people didnt know about. We
might have inherited some of their genomes that helped with our immune system and that we
could live until today. But for more information and in depth study of this topic, look into the
article Archaic Hominin Admixture Facilitated Adaptation to Out-of-Africa Environments. We
are evolved and slowly evolving every day, it is important to know where we inherited from, this
article could be something that leads you in that direction to find out our origin.
