EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The inclusion of noncommunicable diseases under the

health goal is a historical turning point. Finally these diseases are getting the attention
they deserve. Through their
169 interactive and synergistic
targets, the SDGs seek to
move the world towards
greater fairness that leaves no
one behind.
Dr M. Chan,
WHO Director-General

In

globalization word the word Urbanization, defined as the increase

in the number of cities and urban population, is not only describe a
demographic movement but also includes, social, economic and
psychological changes that constitute the demographic movement. It is
a process that leads cities to growing due to industrialization and
economic development. The rapid increase in urban population
worldwide is one among the important global health issues of the 21st
century. According to the United Nations Population forecast, by 2030,
more people in the developing world will live in urban than rural areas
and by 2050, twothirds of its population is likely to migrate to cities.
Urbanization brings both of advantages and disadvantages. This
development transition is accompanied by economic growth and
industrialization, and profound changes in society, the pattern of family
life. Urbanization can affect mental health through the influence of
increased stress and factors such as overcrowded and polluted
environment, high levels of violence, and reduced social support.

SDG 11
is part of Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) developed by the UN as a blueprint for
ending poverty, protecting our world, making
equitable and sustainable development for all
people. For the SDG11, it focused on making
the cities to be inclusive, safe, resilient and
sustainable for all citizen.
The Sustainable Cities and Communities are
included of many targets that are all intended
to be achieved by 2030, one of them is
significantly reduce the number of deaths and
the number of people affected and
substantially decrease the direct economic
losses relative to global gross domestic
product caused by disasters, including
water-related disasters, with a focus on
protecting the poor and people in vulnerable
situations. This target is concern about
well-being and livability of people in the cities
with related to urban health. And also directly
relate to the SDG3 which seeks to ensure health
and well-being for all, at every stage of life. In
this case we focusing on the mental disorders
which occur in all regions and cultures. The
most common are anxiety and depression,
which, not infrequently, can lead to suicide. In
2012,
an
estimated
800,000
people
worldwide committed suicide, and 86 per cent
of them were under the age of 70. Globally,
suicide is the second leading cause of death
among those between the ages of 15 and 29.
In generally, urban health are consisted of
physical and mental health, in the cities mental
health is a significant problem in people ,
which should be monitored and solved
because nowadays a quarter of the worlds
population will experience mental illness in
their lifetime, and 85% of them live in low- and
middle-income countries, including Thailand.

In generally, urban health are consisted of physical and

mental health, in the cities mental health is a significant
problem in people , which should be monitored and
solved because nowadays a quarter of the worlds
population will experience mental illness in their
lifetime, and 85% of them live in low- and
middle-income countries, including Thailand. Credible
research suggests that city living can causes mental
illness and unhappiness. For example, urban residency
can increase psychosis and mood disorder risks and
addiction to some drugs more that the rural residency.
The American Psychological Associations survey findings
suggest that the patterns of unhealthy stress behaviors
we see in adults may begin developing earlier in our
adolescence.
Many
American
teens
report
experiencing stress at unhealthy levels, appear
uncertain in their stress management techniques and
experience symptoms of stress in numbers that reflect
adults experiences, and during the school year they
report stress levels even higher than those reported by
adults. .These findings are especially sobering when
paired with research that suggests physical activity,
nutrition and lifestyle all wellness factors the survey
revealed to be affected by stress in teens and adults
not only contribute to adolescents health now, but also
to habits that can be sustained into adulthood. This
mean adolescence in todays society face a lot of
troubling from family friendship issues to relationship
concerns, pregnancy scares and drug experiences.
So building the good mental health in citizen,
especially in adolescence is important part and likely
to have a positive impact to make Sustainable Cities
and Communities. In order to achieve Sustainable
mental health development in the cities, we create
the application call Unlock your story which aim to
build a better mental health in adolescence,
encourage them to be more self-confidence
,enhancing social skills and problem-solving skills
which can help prevent mental health problems such
as conduct disorders, anxiety, depression and eating
disorders as well as other risk behaviors including
those that relate to sexual behavior, substance abuse,
and violent behavior by providing the treatments
which include counseling.

DESIGN PROBLEM
30%

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental

disorders are the single most common cause of disability in young
people. In Thailand, research show that approximately 30% of
children and adolescents are suffering from some form of mental
disorder and 10% of them are in the severe point. Furthermore mental
disorders onset prior to the age of 25, which making the adolescent
years a critical point in which mental health can be promoted, and
mental health problems can be addressed.

Bangkok is the capital city of Thailand, with a population of approximately six million
peoples which have children and adolescences between 13-18 years about four hundred
thousand peoples. It is a city with economic crisis, political conflict and rapid
development environment create unhealthy situations for adolescence in both the public
and private spheres that presents the prevalence of stress which directly associated with
developed of common mental disorders in adolescence.
Nowadays, the necessity for adolescence
flexibility is increasing. Psychological
problems and mental disorders are
frequent, and adolescence seek help at
the places where they can easily access.
This special issue presents data on the
prevalence of complaints and disorders
reported by adolescence. Examples of
counseling services and the methods they
offer a solution are given. Proposals for
the structure and the methods of mental
health services for adolescence are
derived from many perspectives. There
are many of factors that can impact
adolescence's mental health status, both
positively and negatively. Providing
children with an environment that
demonstrates love, compassion, trust, and
understanding will greatly impact
adolescence so that they can build on
these hard step to have a productive
lifestyle. Many adolescence do not
receive that type of lifestyle though. Some
children have to deal with a childhood
that is filled with angst, resentment, hatred,
distrust, and constant negativity. They have
a difficult time coping with their emotions.
These adolescence will usually promote a
risk for mental health programs.

It is a difficult process for any person, let

alone adolescence, to overcome such
adversity but being proactive and doing
all that you can for the child will at least
help their mental health in some positive
way. For example in urbanization society,
the parents work outside the home and
family in societies become a single family
that only children and parents rarely have
adults in the home or being big family like in
the past and for some children that leave
their hometown to study in a famous school
in Bangkok making adolescence have
sparse talking comprehension with parents.
Relationships with family members to be
more distant. The trials of the teenage
years are life-shaping period of life, there
are many aspect that transit from kids to
adolescence.
Many
children
and
adolescence face with many problem in
their life and they unable to find their way
to past it so many times they simply need
someone to hear them and understand, to
consult and talk to, but parent have no time
or busy and tried from their work kid feel
like do not want to disturb. Moreover, in
Thai society adolescence opinion always
considered as not important so it make
adolescence do not talk to their parent
and adult because they feel like no one
would not understand them or do not want
their parent disappointed in them.

OBJECTIVES
Recognizing the importance of the mental health in adolescence encourage our group
to design new creative tool to alleviate stress and problem of adolescence with this
following objectives:
To promote good mental
health among children,
adolescents and their families.

To help children,
adolescents and their
families who experience
with mental health
problems.

To join with agencies, organizations

include charitable organizations to
work together for public benefits
and sustainable cities.

To assist, cooperate and work together

with people, groups, and organizations
that aims to solve problem related to the
mental health of children, adolescents
and their families.

CHALLENGE
Get pressure from surrounding
people, for example children get
pressure from their parents by
studying hard to get a good
grade.

The competition with friends at

school in order to get a good
grade and get a good
university make them being
more stress.

Environment within society cause

many problems to people
(children).
Source of problems are:
Overpopulation
Pollution from car and factory
Construction (noise)
Crime

Inequality between the rich

and the poor make people get
stress, for example poor
people dont have enough
tuition fee, so they dont have
chance to study like other
people.

Symptom causes stress

Because of people stuck with

their problem and dont find
the way to relief its stress

CULTURE
Thai culture is a big part consist
of many minor factors that can
influence children behaviour as it
is deeply influenced by religion
With around 95% of the country
being Theraveda Buddhist, the
belief system and values of Buddhism play a huge role in
day-to-day life.

Respect for elders

and for those in higher
social positions is also
important.

Losing face by showing

anger or by telling a lie
is a source of great
shame for Thai people.
This can influence children to be afraid of
doing something wrong
in the public or even in
the society.

In general, displays of emotion in public

are viewed in a very negative light. No
matter how frustrated or upset a person
might feel, he or she will always strive to
maintain a positive and friendly attitude, a
sense of humor, and a smile.

Hierarchies of social status character-

ize nearly every interaction. Children are

expected to respect their parents and
teachers. The young must show deference to the elderly.
Those with highly prestigious positions in
society, such as doctors, important public
figures, and monks are almost revered.
Those things can effect the children with
less comfort to talk about their problems.

Family is central to Thai life.

Although many newly-married couples will set up their own households, it is not uncommon for
extended family to live with them. Often, grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles will all live in
the same household and help to raise children
and provide for the family. Children are
expected to show great respect for their parents, and they maintain close ties, even well into
adulthood.
Now that in urban society, parents have less
time with their children which can cause children to mental issues in someway. Although
Thailands family life and society has been traditionally male-dominated, women are granted
considerable respect. Recent laws and legislation have allowed women more freedom to
move out of traditional roles and into professions such as politics, medicine, and business.
Respect and equal rights for women has, in
recent decades, become an important part of
Thailands law and values.

When they have a problem, they need...

From the primary research and secondary research
from another digital platform (Like Pantip website
; Thai famous social web board and dek-d website; web for Thai children) there have many
children ask the question that already have the
answer or the previous question from another user in
the internet but many children usually ask them
again such as there has one girl get pregnant and
she tell about her story and ask some question.
We found that actually people dont need the
answer about how to solve the problem every time.
Sometime they just want friends and somebody to

children which find solutions on the internet.
In the real life, it was good to let the children solve
the problem by themselves but it better if there
have someone to lead them a way. From the news
and past situation, many children choose the way
to solve the problem by themselves because they
cant find who to give them advices then some of

The primary research support how to make the
application. Most of the children want to have a
friend who listen to their problem and advisor who
give them a guideline. On the other hand, they also
solve and relieve their stress by their own. The children
around 13 -18 is the turning point that will define what
they will be in the future. So, the feather of the application will support these two type of children solution.
The application will provide the consultant and challenge to help the children release their stress.

USER INTERVIEW
Nice application, cute avatar, This application is seem really
useful. I can chat with adviser and find new friends that understand how I feel.
This app is going to be very useful in contacting and sharing. I
can tell my problem with other people who welcome to listen to
me.
Its good to have many activities but I think it look quite hard to
use.

At first, I had a little problem with it because I confuse how to

use, It has too many feature. And I think this app is a good way
to learn from other people that have similar problem.

I like this app!. I like that I can have a private chat with adviser,
hide all my private messages that some time I dont want to
share.
Im looking for someone who will listen when I have a problem
for a long time, and when Ive heard about this app, I really look
forward to the day when the app release
Im not sure that if I post the topic on application, how many
people will answer or give me an advice

I think get response from adviser in chat box may take long
time because a lot of people would send the question/story too,
so if the app can improve this point, it will be better for
everyone
Ive just found my new friend who will be listen to my problem,
if the app can help all child who have the problem, our society
must be improve and get better

The reason that children dont want to talk to the parents are
1. They dont want to disturb to their parents because they think parents were work hard
all day, so they dont want to make the parents feel anxious about the problem.
2. When parents know the problem, they will tell the story to others e.g. relative which
make them embarrassed. Moreover, some parents are not told the problem to others but
compare them with other child instead, which it makes more kid dont want to consult the
problem with the parents.
3. A generation gap may is the problem that parents dont understand their child e.g.
some parents think the problem of their kids is just a little thing, which dont have to stress out.
4. Parents are censorious before the kid tell all the story, they premeditated during listen
the story that their kid did something wrong instead of others did.
5. Parents dont have time to talk with child because of busy work.

CROWDSOURCING

The application is allow both user and

counsellor to share their idea, knowledge
and information about mental health
especially for adolescence. The application
have brought the information of statistic
,problem and also the organization that
working and interesting in this field closer to
their stakeholders, bringing the new ways of
collaborating and creating value together.
Crowdsourcing is helping our application to
collect data from the user who come for
counselling and in the long run we can
analyze those data to find the best and
appropriate solution to solve and decrease
problems in the direct way with the right
knowledge contributing to our target.

CAMPAIGN

We plan to corporate and work with

organization and government sector that
response in developed and promoted good
mental health in Thailand go further to the big
area and scope by using those localized
information receive by the users of the
application. The output that we expect to do
are the mental health campaign, the policy
that support urban and people mental health
and also the development of the application
to be more effective, productive and
successful in promoting the good mental
health.

DEVELOPMENT
In the future we plan to develop our
application to be more specific to user
group such as teacher and student in
secondary school. According to feedback
and expert interview, the teacher in the
secondary school also experience with the
student who have some problem in mind
and represent it through their behavior
because teachers see student regularly for
10 months of each year, they are in a key
position to help protect the mental health
of these children. Teachers can be the first
to notice signs and symptoms of mental
illness in their students. They can also help
prevent mental illnesses from developing
in the first place, through preventive
measures in the classroom. So that we will
add and develop more function that
suitable for both teacher and student to
make teacher can get closer and take
care their student. We want to create a
student and classroom management tool
to help teachers improve behavior and
provide an advice to student in the
application which separate into private
class and chat quickly and easily. And also
create a tool to help student improve their
potential and build up their mind, give
them a private space to talk with their
teacher about problem about education
and other issues.

CONCLUSION
#CONCLUSION

CONCLUSION
Stress is common among kids and adolescent, with 10-20% of
school-aged children experiencing it. While they may not
initiate a conversation about what's bothering them, they do
want their parents or someone to reach out and help them
cope with their troubles. Things like school and their social life
can sometime create pressures that can feel overwhelming for
children.
Good mental health allows children and young people to
develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at
them and grow into well-rounded, healthy adults. As the
children grow to be a good adult, It can bring more good and
effective citizen to our society. Therefore the cities will be
sustainable and can achieve SDG 11.
Unlock story created to develop healthy ways to cope with
stress in the way to reduce childs stress and solve everyday
problems.
