EXAM ONE STUDY GUIDE
FORMAT:
A. Forty (40) multiple choice questions worth 3 points each for a total of 120 points.
ESSENTIAL INFORMATION:
A. You will need a #2 lead pencil for the scantron sheet.
B. You may not leave the room once the exam begins without permission.
C. I expect you to adhere to the Universitys policies regarding academic integrity.
D. Please refer to my policies and penalties regarding exams.
E. Please refer to The Successful Student for study hints.
F. The exam will be Wednesday, March 2.
G. If the exam is cancelled due to inclement weather, it will be held, Monday, March 7.
CONTENT:
You need to master all areas and be able to: (1) know, (2) comprehend, (3) apply, (4) analyze,
(5) synthesis, (6) evaluate the content well. The bulk of the content will come from the textbook
but augmented by in-class work, handouts, and on-line slides. The definitions of the emboldened
and underlined terms, which are from Blooms taxonomy, are listed below.
Knowledge: the recall of specifics and universals, the recall of methods and processes, or the
recall of a pattern, structure, or setting. This includes knowledge of terminology, facts,
conventions & methodology of studying the field, trends, classifications, criteria for judgment,
principles, concepts, theories.
Comprehension: the lowest level of understanding that includes stating principles, etc. in ones
own words (translation), ability to interpret knowledge (interpretation), make predictions based
on specific criteria (extrapolation).
Application: taking the abstract concepts and applying them to concrete situations.
Analysis: may include breaking down a concept down into its constituent parts, distinguishing
the elements of a concept, analyzing the elements, relationships or recognized patterns
Synthesis: putting together elements and parts so as to form a whole that was not clearly there
before. This may include production of a unique communication, plan, set of operations, or
abstract relations by combining concepts, formulating new hypotheses
Evaluation: judgments about the value of material and methods for given purposes; use of a
standard of appraisal. This involves making judgments in terms of internal evidence/standards or
external criteria/references.
