EVALUATION/REFLECTION FROM LAST LESSON [What did you learn from last
weeks session? Provide details and examples. How is what you learned informing your
planning for this week? What did you learn about yourself as a teacher?]
Last weeks session went really well. We started to work on fluency and hope to see
improvement in the next couple of weeks. Josue seems to be enjoying Double Fudge and
understanding what he is reading. His comprehension skills are still remarkable. This week we
will continue to focus on fluency and comprehension.
GOALS for the session or for the child:

Rationale:

Reading: Fluency & Comprehension

Common Core Standard(s):

Writing: Capitalization and punctuation

RF.4.4 Read with sufficient accuracy and

fluency to support comprehension.

Word Study: Long Vowels

W.4.2 Write informative/explanatory texts to

examine a topic and convey ideas and
information clearly.

FLUENCY/FAMILIAR READING (5 min)

[include selection]:
I Survived book

GUIDED READING (25-30 MIN):

Selection:
Before Reading Activity: Fluency
Saturday Morning Passage: Timed reading to
see how many words per minute Josue can
read.

Rationale/Purpose(s) (Why is it important to

do this based on what you have learned about
your tutee and according to research?
Include citation, references to professional
sources):

Rationale/Purpose:
Other important findings from this study
revealed a strong correlation between reading
fluency and comprehension, as well as a strong
correlation between reading fluency and
students overall reading ability. (Helps
Program)

During Reading Activity: Comprehension

Rationale/Purpose:

Josue will whisper read Double Fudge while

following along with the audiobook. We will
take short pauses to revisit what he has read so
far and make connections. Following along
with the audiobook should help Josue with his
fluency and his comprehension

Allows student to write down any questions or

important parts that need to be discussed.
Keeps student engaged in reading.

Post-Reading Activity: Fluency

Lego fluency cards.
Josue will be presented with short fluency
phrases, every time he says a phrase correctly
and with the right expression he will get one
Lego to build his creation. He will have time at
the end to build a Lego creation

Rationale/Purpose:
Josue loves Legos and I think these first
phrases we work on with be a good starting
point for him. The Legos will motivate him and
he will get to do something he enjoys at the end
of the activity.

WRITING (10 min.):

Rationale/Purpose:

Write about your understanding of money. Do

you think it is possible to create your own
money and use it wherever? Why or why not?

Critical thinking skills.

WORD STUDY (10 min.):

Rationale/Purpose:

Trash or Treasure: Long Vowel

"If he can recognize these words easily, he will

be able to focus less on decoding and more on
comprehension. " (Blue Valley K12)

Students sort pictures into the long a category

or trash the picture if it does not go along with
the long a.
BOOK SHARING/AUTHORS CHAIR (5
min.):
Josue will share an "I Survived" book.

Selection:
