How can reading Gods word change your life?

BY

CALEB

Have you ever wondered why you should read your Bible? Or have you ever heard
someone say that Gods word changed their life? Did you ever wonder what that meant? How
could reading written words on a page change someones life? It can be really easy to not put
much importance in Gods word and reading the Bible. However, Gods word is an awesome
tool that does have the power to shape and change our attitudes, actions, and desires.
Ephesians 6:17 states, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
When we look at this verse we cant help but to see how powerful Gods word really is. His
word is referred to as a sword, showing us that His words have the power to do great things.
Gods word is capable of changing our hearts, thoughts, and actions, but only if we allow it
access into our lives.
Jesus quoted in Matthew 4:4, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word
that proceeds from the mouth of God. When we look at this verse we cannot help but to tell
that Jesus is acknowledging the importance of Gods word. We shouldnt just rely on bread
or food we eat each day, we should be more concerned about putting Gods living word into
our hearts and lives each day. Gods words empower us each and every day.
So if Gods words are powerful and they have the ability to change our lives, how do we
get them into us? Think about it like food. Food is something that you make time for everyday. You usually eat roughly three times a day. You eat in the morning, you eat at lunchtime,
and you eat at night. So you know each day at around noon you should be heading to the
cafeteria, or wherever to get some food.
Shouldnt the same be true with the word of God? Shouldnt we be able to set a time
out of our busy day to spend time in the word of God? It may be at night before you go to
bed. It may be early in the morning before you get ready, or it may be during a slow time at
school or work. We need to always find a time that we can be consistent about getting into
Gods word.
King David took time to spend with God. In Psalm 63:1 he states, God, you are my
God; Early will I seek you; My soul thirsts for you; My flesh longs for you in a dry and
thirsty land where there is no water. When you spend time in Gods word you will find that
your thoughts, actions, and desires line up with Gods!
With love,
Caleb Taylor
