Francisco Beltran Buencamino Sr.
Born Nov. 5. 1883, Bulacan

Son of a musically inclined couple

He created the Buencamino Music Academy, 1930

He ventured into musical directing and scoring, composing film music.

He also wrote Zarzuelas and Kundiman.

Famous compositions: Harana, Pandanggo ni Neneng, ang Bukang Liwayway,


ang Bagong Balitaw, Himig ng Nayon, Damdamin

Honored him with the title Outstanding Composer

Francisco Santiago
* Known as Father of the Kundiman
* Belongs to the group of Triumvirate of Filipino Composers

His music was Romantic in style, incorporating western forms and techniques
with folk materials.

He was also a musical director in films

Famous compositions: Pakiusap, Madaling araw, Sakali man, ano kaya ang
Kapalaran, Kundiman, Leron Leron Sinta,

Nicanor Abelardo
From San Miguel Bulacan

One of the Triumvirate of Filipino Composers

Was influenced by the musical styles of Schoenberg, Hindemith and


Stravinsky

He also developed a style that combined European Romanticism with


Chromaticism

Considered a composer of Romantic Style

Famous compositions: Cinderella Overture, Panoramas, and violin sonata,


Mutya ng Pasig, Nasaan Ka Irog, Magbalik Ka Hirang

He compose the UP Namin Mahal HYMN

Antonio Molina
From Quiapo, Manila

The first National Artist for Music

One of the Triumvirate of Filipino Composers

An orchestral soloist at the Manila grand opera House

A product of both the Romantic and Impressionist schools of thought

Wrote a Spanish-style opera known as zarzuela

Best known for his romantic serenade Hatinggabi

Famous compositions: Ang Batingaw, Kundiman-Kundangan, Pandangguhan,


amihan, Awit ni Maria Clara, Ang Larawan nitong Pilipinas,

Hilarion Rubio Francisco

Born in Baccor, Cavite

Made his first composition UNANG KATAS for his concert with the band

Member of the Lyric Theater Orchestra

Became a band leader and conductor of the RPTC Band in UP

Appointed director of the Conservatory of Music CEU, 1944-1945

Held various positions as Vice President of the PASAMBAP (Pambansang


Samahan ng mga Banda sa Pilipinas)

Famous compositions: Florante at Laura, Bulaklaken, Halik, Ang Konseyerto,


Ang Magsasaka, Bukang Liwayway, Filipinas kong Mahal, National Heroes Day

A proficient clarinet player

Awarded a study grant by the UNESCO, 1949

He was a music insturctor and band conductor of the Philippine Military


Academt (PMA)

Became the music director of the Conservatory of Music in UST, 1961.

Promoted Philippine Music through the use of folk materials.

Famous compositions: Minuet, Pandanggo sa Ilaw, - one of his most popular


compositions,

Rodolfo Cornejo

Born in Singalong, Manila

Listed in the International Whos who in Music

He was also known for his extemporaneous thematic improvisations based on


the letters of peoples names.

Passed away: august 11, 1991

Famous compositions: Ibong adarna, Kandingan, Malakas at Maganda,


Overture, Okaka,

Felipe Padilla de Leon

Born in Barrio Papaya in Penaranda, Nueva Ecija

He was very good in drawing and painting

He took up Fine arts at UP, 1927

He wrote music for zarzuela

Known as Nationalist composer who expressed the Philippines cultural


identity through his compositions

Noli Me Tangere (1957) El Filibusterismo (1970) two operas which was


considered as his masterpiece.

Wrote a march during Japanese regime and christmas carols

Famous songs: March: tindig, Inang Bayan, Bagong Lipunan

Christmas carols: Noche Buena, Pasko Na Naman, Payapang Daigdig
