Lesson Title: Real life experiences of bullying and what could have been done differently?
Grade(s): 11
# of Lessons in Unit: ______

Lesson # _____

Time

Required: 40 min
Target ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors:
PS:A1.9 Students will demonstrate cooperative behavior while working in groups.
PS:B1.3 Students will be more conscious of bullying in all forms.
PS:A1.6 Students will learn the difference between appropriate and inappropriate
behaviors
PS:B1.6 Students will learn to apply conflict resolution in different situations

Target PA Standards:
-Analyze the different ways to handle a bullying situation

Learning Objective(s): 11th grade students will understand that everyone encounters
bullying and there are different ways to approach a bullying situation and that
different people handle the situations differently.
SMART goal: 11th grade behavior referrals will decrease by 15% by the end of the
school year in the school referral record system.
Materials: Worksheet created by school counselor, white board, markers, blank paper, pencil
Procedure (should be specific and have a timeline):
10 min. review what bullying is (any situation where one student feels like they are
being intimidated or made to do something they do not want to do), how we can
stop it, effects it has on others, and going over different plans that were devised in
earlier lessons. They should be able to give the definition and then they have
different ways to contribute to handle the different situations.
10 min. ask if there are any personal stories (mention that this is a safe space and
any interruption and making fun will not be tolerated). If no personal stories, show
previously chosen video clips (2 to 3 mins each).
10 min. talk about the clip/clips and how it was considered bullying and possible
effects it could have on the students involved. Use worksheet to come up with other
ways of handling the situation if the students think there could have been

something done differently. Go over their worksheets as a class and see what they
would have done differently. What discrepancies do students have with each others
plans?
10 min. Debrief. Let the students know that there are people and places to report
bullying and that anyone can stop it. Talk about what they learned and how it was
helpful.
Plan for Evaluation
(How will each of the following be collected?)

Process Data:
11th grade class will be monitored. This data will be collected by the number of
bullying referrals and the number of students who report bullying to appropriate
outlets. This will show that students understand what bullying is and that it is not
okay to do.
Perception Data:
Teacher observations will be collected. Since counseling staff cannot be everywhere
to monitor interactions between students, teacher and other staff input will be
recorded in order to see if bullying interactions decrease.
A survey/questionnaire after the lesson. The questions will address the bullying
situations that were in the lesson in the classroom. It will ask how the students
would have handled the situation differently and what they thought was handled
well and why. It will give other crisis descriptions and will have a long answer
section for how the students would handle the situation, asking for specific verbiage
they would use. It will also be collected by observing the decrease in bullying
referrals in the school system.
Outcome Data:
Outcome data will be collected by monitoring referrals in the schools disciplinary
record keeping system. There should be a decrease in bullying referrals after giving
the students some insight as to how to handle bullying situations.
Follow Up:
At the end of the term of this lesson, a survey will be given. Questions will pertain to
the lesson itself and will ask about some real life bullying situations that the
students dealt with or didnt deal with and what they could have done differently
and what went well.
