You can see the physical control for a water geyser in one of the flat of GIK Institute. Please answer all
the questions presented at the end of this document.

Questions
1. Did you already know how to operate this physical control for turning on/off the geyser
(yes/no)?
2. What major problems do you notice in this physical control from HCI perspective?
Answer
WARNING? its not warning.
where are instructions? aesthetics?
Ergonomic problems (color combination is problematic, physical position is not suitable).
the position of on/pilot/off on upper dial is confusing.
purpose of the push button is not clear. when to push and when to release it?
the combination of push button and on-pilot-off dial is not clear. different views for two dials.
you can't see both the control and its effect (gas flame under the geyser) simultaneously. no
feedback.

system state is difficult to perceive, interpret and evaluate.


3. What are your expectations from such a physical control for easily operating a geyser?
Answer
one simple switch for geyser/pilot on/off as we have in most of the devices/remote controls.
one dial for changing the temperature of water.
any other suggestion that makes it "easy to learn, easy to use".
4. Describe the interaction with respect to Norman's interaction model. Identify seven stages of
Norman's interaction model when you are interacting with this physical control for turning on
the geyser.

5. Explain the gap of execution and gap of evaluation while interacting with the given physical
