PROMOTING IMMIGRATION FROM HOST COUNTRIES
Moving from one country to another has not been as easy as today.
The globalization, the opportunities that host countries are providing to
immigrants and the investment these are doing to bring people, have
made that every day more and more people are thinking of relocating to
countries that might give them a better life quality. Although it is believed
that immigration brings more disadvantages that benefits, there are many
reasons by which immigration is being considered a phenomenon that
boosts the economy, the diversity and the development of a nation.
If emigrating from one country to another is not an easy task in
terms of starting a whole new life and facing new and unknown
challenges, why people keep on making this decision? One reason might
be the persecution which they are undergoing on account of internal
conflicts in their home countries, discrimination or racism (Shah). On the
other hand, people have found in other countries better opportunities for
studying and working even when this means to get away from their
families and the life they have built in the past. Lastly and perhaps the
least common reason for people to move is to reunite with their family
who previously had emigrated. Admitting that all these reasons are valid,

emigrating is still a challenge and quite traumatic on top of the

challenges experienced so far (Shah).
The first benefit that brings immigration to the host is that
emigrants will work in jobs that people in the host country probably
cannot do, or will not do. In these two possible categories, on one hand, it
is found, according to Giovanni Peri, a large group of immigrants, mostly
young and high educated people (scientists and engineers) who detected
in the host country a niche to develop and make grow the skills gained in
their home country. On the other hand, for those jobs that people in the
host country do not want to work in are a large group of young laborers
with no or less education and who are willing to work in hard, manual and
disfavored jobs as cleaning or construction (Peri). With all this, the host
country benefits because it obtains qualified and college educated
workers who will add knowledge and experience and secondly workforce
with no experience in jobs that do not require it.
A second benefit that host countries obtain from immigrants is the
contribution to innovation and modernization of the country. First world
countries and world powers are appealing for scientists and engineers who
in their home countries do not find the chances to grow or put into
practice what they have learned. Many countries provide high-quality
education but poor opportunities to apply and make grow the knowledge
after college. Modern and world power countries afford what is needed to
train and bring opportunities to these professionals that in many cases
become people who reach great achievements for the host country and

the world, it is the case of The USA where One-quarter of the U.S.-based
Nobel laureates of the last 50 years were foreign-born (Peri).
Countries with a high rate of immigration are the countries that
have reached the title of world powers and have provided to the world
with the biggest accomplishments in history. In the first place of this list is
possible to find The United States which has reached the label of land of
opportunity and has received 20% of the worlds migrants (Walsh). Russia
ranks in the second place with great opportunities to study and work and
a few requirements to emigrate. In third place is Germany that provides
an attractive health care and education systems, country which is
requiring migrants to maintain its economy and power. The list of
countries, which is not short, goes throughout all the nations that are wellknown for being powers, by accepting and giving the possibility to
immigrants to grow and thrive.
The last benefit that host countries experiences is the reach of
diversity in terms of culture, language and knowledge. Countries, which
permanently are receiving people from different countries are sociocultural healthy. This is to say, countries with the highest rates of
immigration are countries with the lowest rates of violence and
intolerance. When a society welcome immigrants, they, are way willing to
share their culture and expertise, making the host country a land of
tolerance and understanding where everyone plays an important role
(Furchtgott-Roth).

In conclusion and in contrast with the disadvantages of immigration,

to let migrants entering to a country brings the development of the
workforce, contributes to the boosting of change, modernization and
expansion of the region and transforms the host country in a perfect place
to live where every person not only grows personally but also commits
with the growth of the nation.
