In the far east of Russia a vary rare species has adapted to life in the temperature

forests of Russia. The species is non other then the Amur Leopard. This fast and agile cat can
run up to speeds of 37mph, jump vertically 10 feet, horizontally 19 feet, and do it all with a
weight between 70-105 pounds. Amur leopards are vary solitary and strong, also they have a
life span of 10-15 years. These leopards are known as many different names, such as the
Manchurian leopard, Korean leopard, and Far East leopard. Amur leopards also help their
environment, economically, ecologically, and culturally, the conservation of their environment
helps the other animals that are living in it. Unfortunately this animals status is critically
endangered and there population is about 60 individuals. They are mainly hunted for their
beautiful spotted fur, and the accessibility of the forests dont help either. Since it is built up
around the Amur leopards ecosystem it is vary easy for the poachers to reach their territory and
poach them. Thankfully their are people who are doing something about it. In 2012 the
government of Russia gave the Amur leopards a save haven, when they opened a new area to
protect them. WWF also monitors the illegal Amur Leopard products, Amur Leopards are also
on Cites Appendix l which prohibits all trade of the animal. WWF also increased the population
of prey for the Amur leopard like releasing wild boar, silka deer, etc into their ecosystem. They
are also working with logging companies to decrease the amount of clearcutting near their
environment. Finally WWF convinced Russia to reroute a planed pipeline so it didnt disturb their
ecosystem.
