b
Purpose: Teach staying low and explosion out of stance, power step, hand
placement, rolling hips into blocker and separation from blocker.
Procedure: The defensive piayer will align under the chute in a 3-point stance
and the blocker will align inside the chute in a 2-point stance holding a hand
dummy. On ball movement, the blocker will take a wide lateral step in an attempt
to reach block the defensive lineman. The defensive lineman will step up field
and knock the blocker back off the ball while getting separation and keeping
outside leverage. C.P. - Defender must come straight out of the chute
driving his feet and not step lateral until he clears the chute.
HAND SHIVER PLACEMENT DRILL
Purpose: To strike a blow to the upper torso with proper hand placement
Procedure: Have linemen on knees paired off facing each other. One is offense
and the other defense. The offensive player will hold his hands behind him
exposing his chest. The defensive player will shade him to his left or right. The
defensive player will be in a six-point stance. On coaches command, he will
strike the player in the chest with his inside hand and strike his shoulder with his
outside hand grasping his shoulder pad at the same time to gain leverage23

head outside of blockers head. On coaches command, the blocker will try to
reach block the defender while the defender tries to lock out the up field shoulder
and pull on the other. After he has turned the shoulders. he will use one of three
escape moves: Arm Under - rip arm underneath the armpit and shoulder of the
blocker. Swim - pull the shoulder down and bring the arm over and across the
blockers face. Snatch & Throw - use the blockers momentum and jerk him in
either a forward jerk or a sideways jerk. Can add a ball carrier to drill and react
to the angle of ball carrier
C.P. - Never try to escape a blocker until you have control of him.

11 STEER DRILL
a Purpose: To be able to turn the shoulder of tight end down block (Tex block).
b. Procedure: Get into a pre-lock position where the blocker head and shoulders
are outside of the defender. On coaches command, the defender will lock out his
arm to the up field shoulder and pull on the other and get the feet moving to get
across the face of blocker. After you get shoulders tuned, use an escape move
and get up field. If blocker cuts defender off from crossing his face, use back
door technique. Add ball carrier to the drill and react to the angle of the back.
