President Barack Obama

Barack Obama became the 44th president of the
United States on January 20, 2009 through majority
voting

of

Americans.

He

is

the

first

African

American to achieve this position. Obama ran a

nearly

flawless

presidential

campaign,

won

decisive electoral victory, and presided over an

impressively run transition to the presidency. Few
presidents have faced such urgent challenges upon
taking

office,

including

wars

in

Iraq

and

Afghanistan, an economy in deep recession, and a

host of pressing domestic problems.
Barack Hussein Obama was born in Honolulu,
Hawaii, on August 4, 1961. He attended the academically rigorous Punahou School
from fifth grade through his graduation from high school in 1979. He went on to
study at Occidental College in Los Angeles for two years and then transferred to
Columbia University in New York, from which he graduated in 1983 with a major in
political science. On the surface, the young Obama stood out for his intelligence,
articulateness, and poise. Inwardly, he was troubled about the inconsistency
between his African American identity and the remoteness from the life experience
of most American blacks that resulted from being brought up in a white family. As
he later put it, I was attempting to raise myself to be a black man in America, and
beyond the given of my appearance, no one around me seemed to know exactly
what that meant. He also immersed himself in writings on philosophy, religion, and
the African-American experience. His reading included Saint Augustine, Nietzsche,
Ralph Ellison, Richard Wright, and works on the civil rights movement.
Everyone who has heard of the US elections would have come across this phrase
coined by Obama, Yes we can!. It inspired a whole nation because of the context of

the US economy at that time; unemployment was high and it was the aftermath of
the Lehman Crisis of 2008. This signifies a can-do attitude about Obama, inspiring
his followers to believe that all things are possible despite the challenges. As a
leader to believe that it is possible first before our followers believe; to see the
victory before anyone else sees it. Most of his decisions comes with team spirit,
shows his democratic leadership qualities which members of the group take a more
participative role in the decision-making process. Everyone in government has given
the opportunity to participate, ideas are exchange freely, and discussion is
encouraged. Before he was even named the 2008 Democratic Candidate for
President, supported diplomacy as the first measure to be taken in response to any
suspicious activity.

In particular, Obama supported the re-initiation of diplomatic

action with Iran. He opposed the bill that would regard the Iranian Revolutionary
Guard as a terrorist group, thereby allowing the president to position troops in Iran,
which could be interpreted as military action against the Iranians. This shows that
the President respects all organizations, regardless of their history or relationships
and that his first thought when approaching foreign organizations, is diplomacy.
With the 2009 inauguration, Obama inherited two wars, one of the worst economic
disasters in American history, and a multi-trillion dollar debt. President Obama has
displayed that he knows how to inspire confidence in people, and he will have to if
the United States is going to make it out of these challenges intact.

President

Obama attacks the economic recession daily, creates new plans to counter the U.S.
debt, and has already put his troop withdrawal and distribution plans into action.
The American people must know that the government is working hard so that they
can gain trust in the Federal government once again.

Obama knows the true

meaning of leadership to encourage the American people to act for a common

purpose because they want to.
Obama has extraordinary confidence in his ideas and potential for success. He is
ideologically driven by a desire to transform society. However, because he is not
highly dominant, driven more by a need for achievement than by power for its own
sake, he is relatively pragmatic in his efforts to consummate his policy objectives.
For example, President Obama defended the Iran nuclear deal and urged Americans
to support this initiative for peace. He has more task oriented characteristics and
his views on this Iran nuclear deal and the destroying Taliban shows this as per
below quote during his speech.

Too many of us think it is impossible. Too many think it is unreal. But that is a
dangerous, defeatist belief. It leads to the conclusion that war is inevitable, that
mankind is doomed, that we are gripped by forces we cannot control. We need not
accept that view. Our problems are manmade; therefore, they can be solved by
man. And man can be as big as he wants. No problem of human destiny is beyond
human beings.
