1. SCOPE
This Section describes the details and method of formwork erection for structural concrete
work in accordance with the construction drawing.
2. INTRODUCTION
Formwork shall include all temporary or permanent forms or moulds required for casting the
concrete. It provides all the temporary support for the required construction.

F/W are constructed as to be easily dismantled are removal in the section.

F/W panel should have adequate strength for supporting and deformation due to the
placing and compaction to concrete.
It can be produced finished concrete work to the required shape and dimensions
within the limits of specified tolerance.
Finished F/W shall be sufficiently rigid and tight to prevent lost of grout or mortar
from the concrete.

3. SPECIFICATION
ICTAD specification and BOQ recommendation.

5. METHODOLOGY
5.1. Material for Formwork
The following material shall be used for formwork
Panel

: 12 mm thick film coated plywood.

Timber

: 50 x 50mm, 50 x 100 mm local timber.

Steel pipe

: 48

Support

: Adjustable steel support (Acro-jacks) and steel pipe

50 mm for support and bracing.

Other accessories

: Steel form tie, steel separator, chain and turn buckle,

U Jacks and T Jacks, form oil.

Film coated plywood sheets are used as formwork materials (to receive smooth
concrete surfaces).
The surfaces of formwork that would come in contact with concrete shall be
thoroughly wetted and coated with mould oil of approved make.
The inside surfaces of the F/W panels are thoroughly cleaned before application of
any of loosens materials.
Re-use of F/W panels shall be used only after the surface has been thoroughly cleaned
and repaired if necessary.
5.2. Propping and Centering
Formwork panels are prepared to fit for the internal dimensions of the column.
Off lines are marked on the floor to check the horizontal alignment of the column.
U- Heads are placed in the slab concreting to support the jacks. Jacks resist lateral
forces due to dumping of concrete, moment of construction equipment and wind of
action

Bottom of the F/W panel are locked with the help of wooden support which is nailed
to the concrete.
Acro-jacks are used to support the columns in vertical. There are two numbers of
jacks in 600mm span. Turn buckles are used to maintain the accuracy of the vertical
alignment.
GI pipes, threaded bars and form ties are used to lock the formwork. There are four
numbers of locking positions in 8 height.
Vertical alignment of the column F/W is checked by plumb. The vertical alignment is
checked before and just after the concreting.
Before concreting is started all the jacks and ties shall be checked to see that they are
intact and suitable action taken in case they are loose. Just after concreting also should
do same thing with both vertical and horizontal alignment checking.

While the concreting is in progress, at least one carpenter/ fitter shall be readily (have
necessary tools in hand) available at site. Numbers of carpenters / fitters depend on the
number of columns going to be concreted. The carpenter shall keep a constant watch on
jacks, ties and take immediate remedial measures if any of these get loosened.
5.3.

Removal of F/W
The F/W shall be so removed not to cause any damage to concrete surfaces due to
shocks or vibration.
The removed F/W panels shall be oiled with form oil and store carefully to use again
easily.
