ABSTRACT

BEML limited is a premier ISO 9001-2000 company in

India and the second largest manufacturer of earth
moving equipments in Asia. BEML limited, Bangalore
complex is currently dealing with mining, defence, metro
etc It manufactures a rolling stock for Delhi metro,
Kolkata metro and Bangalore metro in a consortium with
Hyundai Rotem BEML supplies a DMRC from
Bangalore. For the manufacturing of metro in one case
the sheet metal is supplied to the BEML and every part is
made assembled in the company, where as in the other
case all the parts are supplied from Korea, those parts are
assembled and finished in BEML. From the sheet metals
they receive and perform cutting forming and other
machining operations to get a desired part. Again these
parts are sent to different departments for assembly.
Mainly different sub-assemblies like under frame, side
walls, roof, end walls are made in the respective hangers
and they are sent to another hanger for final assembly.
All the processes are made according to the drawings
received by Hyundai Rotem. After this the coach is sent
to the cleaning, metal finishing, some stages of
straightening and other processes. Now the coach is sent
to the outfitting hanger. For fitting bogies, wiring and
some other electrical work to be performed. After all
these operations it is finally sent for testing. Constant
inspection will be going on in each and every hanger.
Finally after the coach is ready is packed and made ready
for shipping. Since all the work will be going on stage by
stage and inspection will be going on, the possibility of
anything going wrong is avoided or reduced.
