that rose out of ashes and gold dust. Learn about the turbulent history and diversity of
the people and cultures in Kliptown. Discuss with the a local leader what it takes to
raise the community out of poverty, using education as the most effective tool. Discuss
what is ahead and contribute to the challenges the community continues to face. At
the end, enjoy a dance performance of the kids and interact with the locals.

visit the formal migrant workers hostel and be introduced to conditions of male mine
workers and meet the families that live here today. Cycle through the vibrant
community of Meadowlands, and continue to the Hector Pieterson Memorial, the
historical landmark of the 1976 student's uprising, proceed to the famous Vilakazi
street where Nelson Mandela used to live.
