Nearly a billion people worldwide lack

clean drinking water
How long can we go to the well -before it
runs dry?

Introduction
Water is the sustainer of life on earth. With todays
growing population and casual usage of water,
conservation of water has become the need of the hour.
Our school is placed off Kanakapura road and there are
hundreds of apartment complexes coming up in every
nook and cranny. These apartments need water and use
ground water as one of their main sources of water. This
depletes ground water and will lead to a dangerously low
water table. If we travel further into the city then we
again see buildings all around, and most of them getting
water from the river Arakavati and its tributaries. This will
no doubt one day dry up the river of all its water leaving
Bangalore thirsty and repentant. This is not the scenario
of only Bangalore most of the cities of our country. It is
often said that you understand the value of something
only after it is gone. So do we wait for all the water to be
used up? Not really.
So to conserve the water we can use different easy-toimplement and cost effective ways to save water like Rain
Water Harvesting which is becoming mandatory for all
buildings. Other methods like desalination can also be
used to use sea water.
To understand the main challenges of water conservation
we tried to understand the problems of our school, which
will be no doubt magnified in the global scenario.

Gardens use recycled water for trees and ornamental
plants.
Swimming pools use large amounts of water that are
continuously recycled at the STP.
Water is also used for mopping floors and cleaning
the classroom blackboards.
As far as we know, there are no leakages in the
school
Most water used in labs is consumed in the 2
chemistry and 2 biology labs of the senior block, and
the general science lab of the junior block.
