Cognizant Career Architecture: Role Assignment

PROJECT PROPOSAL - 2
Introduction
Headquartered in Teaneck, New Jersey (U.S.), Cognizant combines a passion for client
satisfaction, technology innovation, deep industry and business process expertise and a global,
collaborative workforce that embodies the future of work. With over 50 delivery centers
worldwide and approximately 244,300 employees as of June 30, 2016. Being ranked among
the top performing and fastest growing companies in the world, Cognizant ushers in the
appropriate role fitting plan for the employees that lead to Cognizant Career Architecture,
causing a structural role designing and assignment.

Rationale
Talent development is very personal at Cognizant, a global technology solutions company
with more than 170,000 employees. Every one of Cognizant's employees, from new hires to
mid-level managers, has an individualized development plan that supports his long-term career
goals. For senior leadership, development comes through customized initiatives. A disconnect
had escalated between the work nature of the employees and the designation. To overcome this
a structural role assignment plan was proposed and accepted. The project studies the rationale
behind this very structural change, the new design that the company came up with and its
current working.

Objective
To study the structural change implemented in allocation of specific roles to the
employees corresponding to their work nature. It analyses the new proposed design of the
structural change launched in the name Cognizant Career Architecture and its
implementation.

Scope
The scope of the study is limited to the theories and practices related to Designing Work
Organizations and doesnt include the organizational behaviour of individuals associated with
Cognizant.

Methodology
The project looks at the organization structural plan and tries to determine the extent to
which Cognizant has succeeded in achieving its goals. It then looks at the arising need in
organisational structure; discerns the manner in which the existing structure acted as push for
the new framing. It covers the key aspects of Designing Work Organisations (DWO),
recognizes the need for Cognizant Career Architecture and its adapting in the organization.
