RAJ KAPOOR MEMORIAL AND FILM INSTITUTE, LONAVALA, PUNE

RAJ KAPOOR MEMORIAL AND FILM INSTITUTE is a proposed thesis project to pay
homage towards the pioneer filmmaker and actor raj kapoor. Ranbir Raj Kapoor (14
December 1924 2 June 1988), also known as "the greatest showman of Indian cinema".
The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 1971 for his
contributions to the arts. India's highest award in cinema the Dadasaheb Phalke Award was
bestowed him in 1987 by the Government of India.
An ambitious film actor raj kapoor was also a producer, and a director of India. He was a
pioneer in his field and an inspiration for young filmmakers. Through his works, he tried to,
inspire young minds and make them see the beauty of the country, the surroundings, the
glorious past and the beauty of relationships between the creatures of the creator.
Unfortunately, his journey came to an early end on 2 June 1988 due to a asthma. After his
death, the necessity of preserving his memory and works has drawn the attention. Raj
Kapoor is appreciated both by film critics and movie fans. Film historians and movie buffs
speak of him as the "Charlie Chaplin of Indian cinema," since he often portrayed a tramplike figure, who, despite adversity, was still cheerful and honest. His fame spread
worldwide. He was adored by audiences in large parts of Africa, the Middle East, the
former Soviet Union, China, and Southeast Asia; his movies were global commercial
successes. Raj had the knack of getting the best out of any one, since he had mastered all
departments of film making and even marketing them. His films reflected the Era in which it
was made.
REASON OF SELECTION
Film Institute will give me total scope to go out of my way in design form wise and function
wise not only in structures ,but landscapes too. This is one topic in which there is equal
importance to buildings and landscapes. In most design the landscaping is done either
with a view for having convenience in shooting of a film.
Film , drama , music and architecture are generally considered
to be the time arts which can be experienced, only through the duration. Summing up, I
have taken this subject because it is an entertaining topic as well as a demanding one
FILM AND ARCHITECTURE
are parallel art forms. They have a lot of similarities in terms of special experience. They are
an urge to look in to the interrelation in terms of special character and their influence on one
another. Also Architectures role is changing with the changing times and needs of the
people. More stress is laid on the experience, the metaphor and identity of spaces. The
most important role of architecture is to serve people by creating conductive environment.
Cinema is closer to Architecture not solely because of its temporal & spatial structure but
fundamentally because both articulate lived space. The Architecture used should be Multi-

Talented, Multi- Faceted & Multi-Situational & Design so that the Architecture of buildings
can be easily altered according to need.
