COMPONENT 3 METHODOLOGY
ASSIGNMENT 2- Planning beyond the lesson
Length: 1,000 - 1,500 words
Assignment outline
You are required to teach and evaluate a language-focused lesson and
complete follow-up work
Guidelines
1. After teaching and reflecting on the lesson, outline your plan for the next
three or four lessons and give a rationale for your plan. For your rationale you
should consider one or all of the following issues:
a) what extra practice your learners need to develop their skill in using the
target language from this lesson
b) how you could help them extend their analytical understanding of the target
language from this lesson
c) what language development work you would move onto next and give
reasons
2. Select one piece of material and / or one classroom activity that you would
use to achieve one of these aims (a, b or c) in one of your lessons.
a) explain how you would use the material or organize the activity in order to
achieve the aim.
b) comment on the difficulties that the learners might have with the material /
activity and explain how you would help them
c) justify your decisions in 2a and 2b
You may use published ELT materials or materials from another source. The
practice or development may be planned for classroom use, homework or selfstudy. You should include a copy of the material used.
NOTE
1. This assignment should be developed from a language- (not a skills)
focused lesson
2. You should include the original lesson plan and evaluation with the
assignment
3. Sections 1 and 2 should be about the same length.
4. Section 1b could refer to remedial or extension work with the target
language
5. In Section 1 you are not required to describe practice activities or
remedial / extension work in detail or analyse new target language in
detail.
6. Section 2a could be presented as a full lesson plan, as a written
description / rationale or as a combination of the two
7. This lesson can be one of the lessons assessed in your Practical
Teaching
