One of the focuses for the STAAR test for reading is on informaonal text. The fact that our non-con

When do you visit the library? (check ALL that apply)

Total # of Student visitors

to the library:

9,079
Please check ALL THE REASONS you visit the
library.

This number is still counting as the year is still not over

and students still visit before and during school!

Do you have a comment about the

technology in the library?

There aren't enough desktop computers. Maybe

you should get some more. :D
Most of the time computers are taken up. I like the
iPads though. But they can't do everything a computer does
To many good blocked resources
need more student computers or laptops to do
work. ipads are cool but can't do drive on them
easily
I don't understand why we can't play the computers during the day in our free time like during lunch,
advisory, or whenever a teacher lets us come here

I love her as a librarian

she is super nice, and
always helps me nd
books.

Do you AGREE or DISAGREE that Mrs. Bayardo is helpful and provides

instruction in using the library and finding books and other library re

I love her as a librarian she is super nice, and always helps me find books.
I think Mrs. Bayardo is the best library staff in the world. She always is helping people and just keeping the library clean and she is just really good at her job.
She is there when you need to do research, and can help you with finding things.
She always helps when ever I need help finding a book and finding helpful sites
for work
Ms. Bayardo didnt smile and wave back at me to say hello.
She is the best librarian I met , she isn't uptight or to nice , she helps me allot and
others also.
She is a great librarian, she introduced a lot of good books we should read, and
she made class activities, in the library, very fun
she is really helpful with looking for books and online things,i am really gald we
have her as a libaryen
Mrs. Bayardo is a very kind and helpful person that the students can look up to
Shes a reading beast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is the BEST thing about your school library?

There is a lot of books and useful resources

The charging center in the back of the room
That you can come whenever you want during free periods (lunch,
advisory, etc.)
EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The personality of Mrs. Bayardo
We can read and play on devices
it has my needs for my reading madness
The best thing i like about our library is that Ms.Bayardo makes it
comforting for us
reading and there is such a wide selection of books
The hangout areas
All the books and the way its so relaxing
I love how helpful people are and how organized it is
all of the variety of books to chose from, including the ipad book
choices

I like how our librarian is the right level of stern.

She is strict but to a certain extent and is always
kind about it. She lets us do our own thing to a
reasonable level. Mrs. Bayardo is the best librarian by far. She's hip, she's cool, she's fun,
and she is one of the nicest ladies I've ever met.

What clubs would you like to see in

the library?

Bernal Library.IT'S AMAZING!!!!

Mrs.Bayardo is busy.

like banners (on the walls) and

streamers (with school colors)
hanging from ceiling.

I DONT KNOW
ITS GREAT
ALREADY !

This year library clubs included the Writing

Knights which consisted of any 6th-8th grader
that loved to read. We met every week to learn
about the craft of writing and in the end published
our very own literary magazine.
We also had a weekly Lunch-n-Listen club
where students were able to come to the library
during lunch, eat their lunch and listen to a good
book read by Mrs. Bayardo. Just because were
in middle school doesn't mean we dont like listening to good books!
We also held two book fairs this
year! Our Fall book fair was held in
October and we were able to
raise $919.65 for the librarys needs
and future events. Stay tuned for
some author visits soon!
Our Spring book fair will be at the
end of school and hopefully just as
successful!

Students were introduced to

ebook reading with NISDs
Overdrive collection. This is yet
another way to get your reading
on the go!

LibraryPalooza
LibraryPalooza is an amazing author
even put on by the NISD secondary
librarians. Its a great opportunity for
students to meet and listen to some
pretty cool and accomplished
authors. I highly encourage all
teachers to attend and to
encourage your students to attend
as well!
Students participated in
the March Madness Book
Tournament picking the
2014-15 Book of the Year
for our school! It was fun
seeing them get excited
about their favorite books.

Students in the 5th grade classes coming from the feeder elementary schools, Langley,
Lieck, and Hoffman, and all current 6th and 7th grade students were encouraged to
take the summer reading challenge! They can log their reading on a paper copy or
electronically.

Attended Region 20
Library Round-up
conference in
September 2014

Although I was not able to attend either the Texas Library Association (TLA)
annual conference or the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA)
annual conference I was able to get some ideas from fellow colleagues
that did attend. Next years goals? I plan to attend at least the TCEA annual
conference in February 2016.

My summer is definitely a
time relax and recharge but
its also a time to reflect on
the year and a time to keep
learning! ~ Mrs. Bayardo

How do your classes use the library? (Please check all that apply)

What lessons, activities, functions, etc. do you suggest the library have?

Primary vs secondary resources Google is not a resource for research papers

Everything we've done this year was great
author visits please!
I think you are doing a fantastic job!
I want to have more access and knowledge about e-books. I want help to create a virtual community with my students
so we can discuss books openly. "Book studies"
when we are covering a topic, such as mythology, it would be helpful to pull the books we would like students to use
together. also, reference books and using dictionaries and thesauri have been a big issue this year-hopefully not next
year : )
Let's try to plan a lesson to teach together the writing process in regards to making a book anthology for grade 8 GT. I
have many ideas to share.
novel units or research, creating the setting for the novel and having the kids experience it
parent read and write night
contests, drawings, etc
organizing the book shelves, what a Librarian does when we are learning about community workers:)
Poetry lessons would be helpful. Also, lessons that deal with nonfiction would be great
40 Book Challenge Thematic activities surrounded around the ELA novel units

Do you like receiving the monthly Library newsletter?

If you do like the monthly library newsletter do you have suggestions to add/delete in the

the great new teacher resources we have in our library

Basic rotation of grade-levels assigned ELA times and lunch times
So far so good
I would like to see us invite some author's to come speak!
book of the month? Reader's corner with a student-written review?

GREAT
IDEA!!!!

Your creative energy and knowledge of technology
Gets kids excited about reading
Great librarian. Always in a great mood and very enthusiastic. The students really benefit from your program
If technology budget allows, have another set of laptops such as
chrome books available for check out. (Wish List)
The fabulous and always willing and positive librarian!
Mrs. Bayardo truly serves our community. She has a consistent verve for
reading, and students find her love for books contagious. Our library is
always open and ready for any event, which allows students to access
the resources necessary to be successful in middle school

Please list or describe the way(s) the Bernal Library program could be improved to better
serve you and your students:
It's awesome. More

I am not sure you could do anything differently. The library here at Bernal is
wonderful and you do a wonderful job maintaining and creating activities
for our students. I don't think you hear that enough. Thank you!
You did great this year! We are so blessed to have you on our staff!!!
I think everything is great!
It's great but I don't really go to the library
I think it's great, I just don't use it. Math doesn't necessarily need access
to the library a whole lot. I guess you know who this is : )
We don't use the library very often:( I would like to use it more next year.
Next year I would like to use it to learn about what a Librarian does as well
as do jobs in the library for vocational:)
I do not see anywhere to improve the library other than having a class-set
of computers

technologycomputers/laptops
would be helpful

bring authors
for our
students

I like the
program
as is!
