ThismonthwetakeacloserlookatAlberta,withalistofitsTop15Logging

Contractors.OurprevioustwolistsofAlbertacontractorshaveputtheTop10in
thespotlight,butthisyearwehaveexpandedthelisttomatchthehighlevelof
readerinterest.
Likeprevioustopcontractorlists,thisoneisbasedonharvestedvolumesno
othercriteriawereusedintherankingofthecompanies.Inthecaseofthislist,
thevolumesarebasedonthewoodharvestedintheyearorseasonof2002.
Foranyoneinterestedinmakingcomparisons,previouslistingsofAlbertastop
loggingcontractorsranintheOctober2000andNovember2001issuesof
Logging&SawmillingJournal.Thesepastissues,andthelists,canbeviewedat

Thelistschangeovertimeascontractorsseefluctuationsintheirvolumesfrom
oneyeartothenext.Reasonsforfluctuationsincludeamyriadofcircumstances,
someofthemainonesbeing:winningandlosingcuttingrights,partialselloffs,
moresalvage,consolidationsandretirements.
Asinthepast,wehavetriedtomakethislistascompleteaspossible,although
thereremainsasmallnumberofcontractorswhodonotwishtoparticipate.And,
asaresultofboostingthelisttothetop15,thereisaslightlyincreasedchance
thatacompanymayhavebeenoverlooked.Again,wearededicatedtomaking
theselistsascompleteaspossible.Ifyouknowofacompanythatshouldbe
includednexttime,pleasegetintouchwithus.
Futureissuesofthemagazinewillcontinuetoupdatereadersonotherregional
