ABSTRACT
The world of education is increasingly stepping forward. Heading into the 21st century,
more and more teaching methods designed to help teachers to face this challenge. Using
internets technology, there are many methods that can be simplified to resolve this challenge.
The subjects History is among the main subjects at the secondary school level. Learning History
should be a subject of interest of students to learn. Students often less interested because of
various factors. The subject itself is not processed with interesting teaching style. Therefore the
aim of this study is to reveal the application of collaborative learning methods through the
application WhatsApp, looking for effectiveness, and provide a new design element in
implementing the 21st Century Learning in the classroom. The study was conducted in a
secondary school in Kulai, Johor by taking a sample of Form 4 students as respondents. This
study was conducted by looking at the scores of students before and after the intervention, before
the end, a questionnaire was distributed to the answers to the research questions. The findings
from this study were analyzed using descriptive statistics to assess the percentage, mean and
standard deviation. The results of the analysis carried out revealed that the percentage of students
who improved understanding is not very significant. It concluded that this method can be carried
out in schools, but must meet a number of aspects to this method can be carried out successfully.
Most students find WhatsApp on the social aspect but it can actually be implemented in the
education arena. Therefore, the role of teachers is highly expected that the success of this latest
method. Advantages in WhatsApp have to be used as a discussion forum for collaborative quick
and easy. The implications of this study are expected to help the various parties, including the
Ministry of Education to find the latest methods that can attract students.
