What happened when and why?

With the Event Store, ibaHD server offers a new function that allows you
to record event-based messages and to show these messages in an event
table. With defined filter functions, you can find events in the historical
data and display the course of the related signals.
Dear reader,
Recording and displaying quality determining
process variables in high resolution is a clear
trend that is constantly growing in the industry.
Nowadays, production data is available in abun
dance and is used in various IT-systems for quality monitoring and process optimization. Systems
like these work on the basis of clustering data
into qualifiable characteristics of which the exact
origin of the data cannot be determined. So, what
about the quality of this data?
We, at iba, have a straightforward philosophy:
Data has to be captured at the source in high
resolution either concerning time or in terms of
strip length. Subsequently - knowing the process
- cleaning and post-processing of the measured
data is done by ibaAnalyzer. The results are clear
and meaningful characteristic values. This way,
the process engineer has full information transparency and knows exactly, which assumptions
have been made when calculating the characteristics.

HD event table and HD trend graph in ibaPDA-V6

Almost exactly one year ago, we presented
the ibaHD server (Historical Data Server),
a solution that records measured data
over long periods of time. The data are not
broken down into single data files, but are
stored on the HD server by using a special
compression algorithm. The signals can
then be displayed again in the ibaPDA client.
It needs just a few mouse-clicks to get
from the annual, monthly or weekly overview to details in the millisecond range.

been exceeded? How high have the temperatures been in the furnace area and
which material has been in the furnace at
the time of the emergency stop? All these
questions can be answered very quickly by
the event-based recording on the HD server, the so-called Event Store. In case of
the event-based recording, certain events
trigger messages that are stored in the
Event Store and displayed in the event table.

Until now, navigation was only time-based,

either by time markers, scroll function or
by entering a certain time.

Mode of operation

In case you want to know if and when certain events happened in course of the production process, you will soon reach the
limit of the time-based recording.
In rolling mills, for example, the following
questions are relevant: How can the rolling
process of certain strip numbers be traced
back? When have certain limit values

Similar to the time-based HD data store,

the event-based data store is assigned to
an HD store on an HD server. For each HD
store, the data and events can be stored by
an ibaPDA server.
If you want more than one ibaPDA server
to store data on the same HD server, you
have to define the corresponding number

Alongside the after process analysis, the direct

and continuous monitoring of quality relevant
variables during the course of the production
process plays an important role. This is especially true for continuous or almost continuous
processes found in steel production, continuous
casting or in a paper machine.
Only this way can the product quality be directly
monitored during the production process and immediate measures taken in case of fluctuations.
It is our objective to realize quality data recorders
with easily configurable standard tools through
the extension of the iba software range.
ibaQPanel and ibaHD server are two such tools
which supplement the classic ibaPDA system.
The Event Store that we present in the current issue for the first time, allows you to record events.
You can find and show these events in course of
the related signals by a simple mouse-click.
I wish you a wonderful summer packed with
positive events!
Sincerely yours,

hence to all HD event data stores.

filters that have been defined once, can be

stored on the HD server and reused at any
time from any client, if needed.

there are up to eight numeric values and

eight text fields. As supplementary information for an event, you should choose
information that is related to the event in
a meaningful way.
To take an example: If on a strip processing line the strip tension in the entry
looper exceeds the permitted limit value,
this event should be stored and displayed
in the Event Store. In this context, it is interesting, which general conditions there
were at the time the limit value has been
exceeded. This is why it might be useful to
add the strip speed in front of and after the
entry looper as well as the current filling
level of the looper as dynamic additional
values to the message. These values are
available as analog measuring signals.
Moreover, it might be interesting to know
the kind of material that has been used,
especially in case the event does not happen with each material.
This information can be configured as text
field via a Technostring. In case the event
happens, the current values of the defined
additional information and the message
are stored in the Event Store.

Principle of data and event storage

In the event display, the source of a message is designated by the name of the HD
store.
The common measuring signals that can
be found in the I/O-manager of ibaPDA,
form the basis for the definition of an
event. An event always has to be identified
by a dedicated signal. This can be an input
signal or - for linked conditions - a trigger
signal that has been defined by means of
the virtual signals or trigger modules.
In the configuration dialog for the Event
Store, a condition is defined based on that
trigger signal, that triggers a message.
This message can contain an individual
text, Technostring-information or dynamic
variable fields with actual and nominal values. Moreover, you can assign a priority
or comments to the triggering event. If the
trigger-condition is met, the related message is created and displayed in the event
table. The event table is a new display type
in ibaPDA client and ibaQPanel.

More than a fault message display

Searches and filters

You would miss valuable functions if you

used the Event Store just for realizing a
simple fault message display. Of course,
you can create clearly structured event
tables by means of the flexible formatting
and the colours.

If you want to find the most interesting

events in the huge number of messages,
you can start a targeted search:

The priority control allows you to realize

a graded message concept with the following categories: Alarm, warning, note
and information. The possibility to assign
certain supplementary information to each
event is the decisive add-on value of the
Event Store. The supplementary information can appear in the message text and
serve as query criteria. For each event,

The new event display

The event table can be formatted individually. By assigning different colours,
you can increase comprehensibility, columns can be hidden, the live-mode can be
switched on and off again. By using special
filter functions, you can find events from
the past rapidly, e.g. beginning and ending
of the rolling process for a special strip
number or a deviation from defined quality
criteria. The query configurator helps the
user in defining the search filters. Search

02

The new event display

The search configurator allows you to

formulate queries that filter events considering the contents of numeric and text
fields. You can define specified periods of
time for the queries.
After having posed a query, the event table shows the messages of the events
that meet the criteria of the search. For
our example mentioned above, the query
might be: show all events limit of tension

ceeded where material xyz was employed. In this event table, the messages
could be filtered at any time using more
and other criteria. The criteria for filtering

of the event, time, priority, comments, etc.

the ibaPDAclient, you can specify, which

display should follow the time jump and
which not. This way, operational situations
can be compared by using different events.

Displaying the signal graph by just

a mouse-click
For each event message, the course of the
related signals can be displayed by a simple mouse-click. The HD trend graph then
jumps to the point in time when the event
happened and switches into the pause
mode. Now, you can analyze the measured
values for the event in detail and measure
them by means of two rulers. If you should
find in course of this observation more
signals that might be interesting, you can
add no matter which signal from the HD
signal tree to the display. In case there
are more HD signal displays configured in

Outlook: Length-based recording

In a next step, the ibaHD server will be extended by a length-based recording. The
measured data will be assigned according to their origin to different meas
uring locations along the product
path. By means of speed signals
length-based signals are calculated. The signals are displayed in
an ibaQPanel view. By the lengthbased recording in the near fu
ture, historical measured data can
be displayed related to the strip
length.

ibaNet750 module goes Flex

As bus interface board to the WAGO-I/O system (750 series),
ibaNet750-BM-D offers significant advantages towards its predecessor
model ibaNet750-BM after a thorough redesign. The most important innovation is the ibaNet 32Mbit Flex-protocol providing the user with more
functions and considerably increased flexibility than the previous ibaNetprotocols. The device will be available as from early summer 2012.
LAN connection becomes redundant
32Mbit Flex not only has advantage due
to its speed of 32 Mbit/s. It also offers
the possibility to transfer IP messages. The advantage: The LAN connection which to date was necessary to
transfer configuration data via TCP/IP
from the configuration computer
to the device has now
become redundant.
A
bidirectional
FO
connection
is enough to
transfer
both
m e a s u r em e n t
and
configuration data as
well as diagnostic data. The corresponding
interface
board in the PC is a FO
card of the ibaFOBD family. With 32Mbit Flex, as many
as 15 devices having a dis
tance
of up to 2 km between them can be interconnected in a ring structure.

Flexible sampling rate and signal

types
The sampling rate is flexibly adjustable
and can total up to 100 kHz depending on
the device. Also for configuring the signals
t o
be acquired, 32Mbit Flex
offers more freedom, as
different data types can
be used in any combination.
The transmission capacity
depends on
the
acquisition
time
set and, for
example,
amounts to 72
byte at 25 s and
to 3147 byte at 1 ms.
Moreover, the handling in ibaPDA-V6
becomes significantly easier, as the modules and/or signals are automatically
detected.

Advantages for ibaNet750-BM-D

For ibaNet750-BM-D, this means: ibaPDA
automatically detects the attached terminals and displays them by name with
the corresponding WAGO number and/or
Beckhoff product description. In this process, ibaPDA-V6 supports numerous digital and/or analog inputs and outputs as
well as complex terminals. By mouse click,
single terminals can be selected.
ibaPDA-V6 determines the maximum
sampling rate, which depends on the
number and type of the connected terminals. The diagnostic function and status
LEDs inform the user about the current
and maximum acquisition time, the K-Bus
status and much more. By the way, the
device is downward compatible to its predecessor.

Consistent protocol standard

Step by step, the iba product portfolio will
be standardized with 32Mbit Flex in the future. The users benefit from the new iba
protocol by increased flexibility, easier
handling and better performance.
Current 32Mbit Flex-capable devices are:
ibaBM-DDCS, ibaBM-eCAT, ibaBM-SiLink,
ibaPADU-S-CM, ibaPADU-S-IT-16 and the
ibaPADU-4-AI-U input module which is
also introduced in this issue.

Innovations at ibaPDA-V6 and ibaAnalyzer

ibaPDA-V6 (6.27.1 6.28.0)
Event Store: The function of the HD server
was expanded by the event-based record
ing incl. the event display in the ibaPDA
client; see leading article.
SIMATIC S7-1200: The latest PLC family from the SIMATIC program can now be
reached with ibaPDA-S7-Analyzer, too.
Compared to S7-300 or S7-400, there
are, however, a few differences. The CPU
is automatically detected by ibaPDA-V6,
however, much less diagnostic information is available, for example. At the moment, access to the measurement data is
only possible by entering the operands
address, as the S7 address book generator
cannot read the S7 project yet due to the
modified programming environment (TIA
portal) and project structure. Using the
symbol names (request) is thus not possible. Following this, only data blocks with
standard access can be used.
S7 routing: With S7 routing, it is possible
to transfer data between participants who
are not directly interconnected, but only
connected via another or several other
networks. A connection can be established
by means of suitable devices taking on a
gateway function between TCP/IP and
Profibus networks, such as an IE-PB link.
S7 routing is supported by the following
ibaPDA modules:
S7 analyzer (TCP/IP and PC/CP)
Request S7 (via ibaBM-DPM-S)
Request FM458 (via ibaBM-DPM-S and
ibaCom-L2B)
Request TDC (via ibaBM-DPM-S and
ibaCom-L2B)
The transmission of the measurement
data to the ibaPDA computer is still effected by means of Profibus (ibaCom-L2B)
or ibaNet fiber optics (ibaBM-DPM-S).
Only with S7 Analyzer with TCP/IP, also the
measurement data is transmitted via the
TCP/IP connection.
ibaNet750: For the connection via the
ibaNet750-BM main module to the
WAGO-I/O system (750 series), also output
terminals are completely supported now.
In the I/O manager of ibaPDA-V6, analog
and digital signals can thus be output in
the alarm section. The new device ibaNet750-BM-D is also supported.
CP1616: The Profinet interface card is also
supported under Windows 7 now.

04

EGD interface: For the interface ibaPDAInterface-EGD, Multicast is also supported

now.
HPCi request: For the configuration
of the measured signals based on the
address books from the HPCi of GE Energy
(Converteam GmbH), the possibility is
given to additionally describe all signal
names of a module with the HPCi symbols from the address book. Moreover, the
request function is supported by means
of the ibaLink-SM-128V system interconnection, even though it is connected via an
ibaBM-COL-8i-o data concentrator to the
ibaPDA computer.
Modbus interface: The data type DOUBLE
is supported by the modules Modbus TCP
client and Modbus Serial.
Signal groups: When grouping signals,
you can now create sub-groups in the I/O
manager, too. By doing so, signals can be
structured even better irrespective of their
original source modules. The group hier
archy is stored in the measurement data
and can be used in ibaAnalyzer.
EtherCAT: For the ibaBM-eCAT bus mod
ule, active slaves can now be defined, too.
In addition, non-standard configuration
files for EtherCAT-Master are supported.
Simadyn D-lite and Simadyn D-Request:
These two types of acquiring measured
data can now be used on one ibaPDA system on different cards at the same time.
The same applies to TDC lite and TDC Request.

ibaAnalyzer (5.21.5 5.22.4)

Macros and filters: Per mouse click, single macros can be exported and imported
as .mcr files from the macro designer. The
same applies to filters in the filter editor
with .fil files. Editing the macros can be
protected by a password.
Legend: When defining the parameter
strings for the signal legend, the marker
positions (x1, x2) and the corresponding
signals to be measured (y1, y2) as well as
the particular differences (dx, dy) can now
be indicated, too.

Marker values in the signal legend

Command line: For the start of ibaAnalyzer

by means of the command line, e. g. as
post-processing command, the new para
meter /autoreload and /loadnewfiles
can be used. By doing so, the data files,
which are currently written, can be cyclically reloaded. New data files in a
specified folder can be automatically detected and opened.
Furthermore, ibaAnalyzer can be started
with the parameter /nominmax in such
a way that the program window cannot be
minimized or maximized so that only the
full screen mode is available.
Navigator: By clicking with the mouse
outside the red rectangle in the navigation
view, the red rectangle will be centrally
positioned above the click point and the
display correspondingly adjusted in the
signal strip.
Logic signal definitions: Every signal definition can now be provided with two comments.
Time shift: The time shift of single data
files can be defined by an expression. All
time shifts are listed in tabular form in the
dialog for the configuration of the file time
shift and stored in the analysis file without
any references to the data files.
Signal names: Notwithstanding the origi
nal signal names, as entered into the data
file, other information can be used as sig
nal name for the display in the signal tree
and signal legend, e.g. comment one or
comment two. The same applies to the
reference name of the signals as used in
evaluations and expressions. The configuration is made in the dialog of the presets
and/or the display properties.
Date: If requested, the date can be dis
played on the x-axis in addition to the absolute time.
New functions: For the complex evalu
ation of FFT analyses, the functions
FFT
Real, FFTRealInverse and FFTComplex are available. With the InfoFieldText
function, the file name and/or pathname
of an attached file can be read out as
text channel with the new parameters
filename and pathname.

New: ibaPADU-4-AI-U fastest module in the PADU-family

With the new
ibaPADU-4-AI-U,
iba extends the
PADU-series by
the - so far - fastest analog input
module.
With a freely adjustable sample rate of up
to 100kHz, the module
is especially suited for
vibration measurement

and applications in the field of condition

monitoring.
The new compact device offers four electrically isolated voltage inputs. By different
amplification factors, the signal level can
be adjusted in several steps from 250mV
up to 24 V. Several filters are implemented, for meeting the high demands on
precision for signal acquisition at high
frequencies. For each channel, you cannot
only connect an analog and digital Antialiasing filter, but also freely configure one
digital filter of the 14th order. All settings
can be done in ibaPDA-V6.

Moreover, optionally different signal processing functions can be realized on each

channel, e.g. calculating the RMS. For this
purpose, the sample rate can be increased
internally up to 400 kHz.
The new module is not only outstanding
because of its high speed, but also be
cause of the compact and light design.
With its 37 mm, it is much thinner than the
proven ibaPADU-8-model. We expect the
ibaPADU-4-AI-U to be available from the
third quarter 2012.

ibaCapture-CAM with Gigabit cameras

The range of cameras of ibaCapture-CAM has been extended by networkcapable GigE Vision-conform cameras. These so-called GigE-cameras
offer among other things a very fast image capturing with up to 300 fps
and resolutions of 640 x 480 and 1920 x 1080 (HD) up to 4096 x 2304
pixels. The cameras are connected to the ibaCapture-CAM-Server by a
special network card (Matrox Solios GigE).

For example, Intel Core i7-processors and

Intel HD graphics 3000 are employed for
integrated graphics processing with hardware-accelerated video coding.
Nevertheless, the number of GigE-cameras must not exceed four for each ibaCapture-CAM-server, but you can connect
normal IP cameras and/or analog cameras as long as you do not connect more
than 16 cameras in total.
For further information about the computer requirements, please see the data
sheet that can be downloaded on our Website.

Applications
The GigE cameras, are especially suited
for recording fast moving processes and
machine parts. No matter, if a high timebased or graphical resolution: You will
always have a clear gain in quality. The
cameras offer slow-motion replays of fast
moving processes as well as finest graphic
details.

Hardware requirements
Because of the high demands on image
processing (data streams of up to 92 MB/s),

a new server with a suitable operating system and state-of-the-art processors has
been developed for the use of GigE cameras.

A high graphic resolution combined with

a high processing speed form the basis of
graphical recognition processes. Currently, we are about to develop image-based
processes for machine monitoring that
analyze the real-time images delivered by
ibaCapture-CAM. However, we will tell you
more about this technology in one of our
next EINblick company magazines.

ibaLogic and
ibaAnimation-3D

SMS Meer, a mechanical and technological supplier for plants in the steel industry decided to employ iba
products for simulation and testing of a process control application for its welding machine. Both, the goal
of reducing commissioning time and the request from many customers that only thoroughly tested software
shall be used on site require a proper simulation.
The real process control is realized with SIMATIC S7 PLC and distributed I/Os connected over Profibus. For
simulation an ibaBM-DPM-S device is used in conjunction with ibaLogic. Running in simulation mode the
ibaBM-DPM-S device is able to emulate all Profibus slaves with all the inputs and outputs the PLC will be
connected to later on site. During simulation an ibaLogic application (running on a standard PC and connected to the ibaBM-DPM-S over TCP/IP) simulates the behavior of the connected sensors and actors, such
as control pulpits, valves, drives, encoders and sensors.
The use of ibaAnimation-3D helped to visualize the process. The mechanical drawings were imported from
the CAD tool and animated by the simulated process signals via OPC connection to ibaLogic.

MAN Diesel & Turbo, a leading manufacturer of gas turbines, steam turbines and compressors decided to
employ ibaPDA for online monitoring and analysis on their turbine test benches. Mainly pressure and temperature values are measured by ibaPADU-8-M devices and Profibus sniffer ibaBM-DPM-S. ibaQPanel is used
for online display of time-based trend graphs and FFT-views. Moreover, ibaPDA is connected via a DLL plugin to MANs own Turbine Online Computer System (WinTOCS), which provides a concept for processing and
representation of statistical data. By means of ibaAnalyzers export feature the data from ibaPDA are made
available for further statistical analyses with other tools such as MatLab.

OOO Fest
Predictive chatter
detection in rolling
mills without
sensors

OOO Fest, the Russian subsidiary of Fest AG, an electrical and automation supplier, presented a mathematical solution for a well-known problem in rolling mills. So called chatter refers to unintended vibrations in
rolling mills in the range from 90 Hz to 190 Hz. The chatter occurs often spontaneously and unexpectedly and
can lead to diminished product quality or even major damage of the machinery. The reasons for chatter are
often unknown and can change at any time. Classic solutions to prevent chatter rely on vibration monitoring
and accordingly can only react when chatter already occurs. The solution of OOO Fest was developed over
years of research and applies a mathematical model which uses many process data but no vibration sensors.
The model is able to identify the energy source of the chatter (approx. 12 s prior to chatter occurrence) and
to calculate the force of the energy source. Moreover, the model is able to predict the rolling speed at which
chatter will occur and to compute the speed range where chatter is still possible. This solution, in fact, can
really prevent chatter. iba products were used over the entire research period for data acquisition and analysis
in a rolling mill.
