Munsell Geological
Rock-Color Chart

Use to judge color

lor of rocks, a
archaeological
rchaeological
h
specimens,
animal pelage, and many natural products in this color range.
This revised edition features the same colors available in previous books plus
additional color charts. Included are a 10Y and 5GY soil chart for glauconite
soils, a 5R soil chart for Australia and Southeast Asia, and a 7.5R soil chart for
tropical and semi-tropical soils. A Munsell high value, low chroma white page
shows half steps from 8.5 to 9.5 in value with chromas of 1 and 2 for N, 7.5YR,
10YR, and 2.5Y. Use this page to describe carbonate, silica, gypsum, and soluble
salt precipitates and evaporites common to arid and semi-arid environments
as well as very light-colored parent materials such as diatomaceous earth and
volcanic ash. The books light gray pages decrease sun glare. The color chips are
recessed into each water-resistant page to allow dirt and debris to be wiped off
easily with less effect on the color chips. 2009 Revised Edition. Chart Size: 6 x 8.

This new edition is a revision of the previously published Geological Society

of America (GSA) Rock-Color Chart prepared by the Rock-Color Chart
Committee. Included are 115 color chips with the Munsell numerical designation
for identifying the range of rock colors. Works with either wet or dry specimens.
Excellent for describing the color of medium to ne-grained rocks. Also helpful
when working with coarse-grained rocks. A neutral mask is included for isolating
individual colors. Loose leaf binder. 2009 Revised Washable Edition. Page
Dimensions: 4-3/8 x 7-1/4. Binder Dimensions: 6 x 7-3/4 x 1.

With 1,605 colors, this is the most useful color guide there is! Ideal for
evidence collection, the hue, value and chroma scales in the Munsell Book
of Color make it easy to evaluate and compare the color of virtually any
material. And, because the chips are removable, you can quickly compare and
coordinate colors with ease. The guide is arranged on 40 constant hue charts
(2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 positions of each hue) plus 4 Munsell Gray charts.
Value Range: 2/ to 9/ in whole steps, with 8.5/ added to Y charts. Chroma Range: /2 to maximum
achievable in equal steps of 2. Also includes 37-step Neutral Value Scale. Chart Size: 12 x 9.75.

Ideal for analyzing beads in the eld, this book includes 176 Munsell Color
standards to aid in reliable, consistent classication of bead colors. The set
of color charts enables you to precisely name and compare bead colors from
various archaeological sites or beaded objects. Bead color is a valuable tool
in determining the region of the world that a bead is from and the types of
materials used in producing the bead. Page Dimensions: 4.4 x 7.25. Binder

Soil Identication Kit

Makes analyzing and logging soil and

stratigraphy in the eld easy!
The front side of this eld guide consists of a ow
chart which lists key descriptive elements used to
characterize and differentiate soil and stratigraphic
units on soil boring logs. Commonly used terms
from geologic, engineering, and soil science
disciplines are included. The back of the eld
guide includes a user-friendly ow chart for easy
assignment of a group name and USCS (Unied
Soil Classication System) symbol in the eld.
Plastic coated, 8-1/2 x 11 guide.

Use this single-sided, plastic-coated guide for

assisting with soil texturing procedures and
assigning a Texture Class using the USDA
texture triangle. The Flow Chart uses step-wise
procedures (adopted from Foth and others, 1992)
for estimating sand, silt, and clay content, and
it uses the ribbon method to estimate the negrained fraction followed by placing the fraction
within the texture triangle to determine Texture
Class (ex: sandy loam). The guide provides
instruction for determining Subclass (ex: ne sandy
loam) and assigning Textural Class Modiers for
rock fragments greater than 2mm (ex: gravelly silt
loam) and organic Compositional Textural Modiers
(ex: peaty sandy clay loam). Dimensions: 8.5 x 11.

This USDA Soil Texture kit consists of eight air-dried

soil samples which have been calibrated by passing
through particle-size screens and conrmed for
ne-grained percentages using a hydrometer. Each
sample is approximately 250 ml (a little more than a
cup) and is stored in a plastic zip-lock bag along with
a sample ID with the USDA Textural Name and the
precise grain size percentages. Texture ranges from
loamy sand to silt loam to clay. Kit includes a quiz sheet
and an answer sheet listing of the Texture Class name
contained within the kit, as well as sand, silt, and clay
fraction percentage. The soil specimens are collected
from the Red River Valley near Fargo, North Dakota;
near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota; in the Missouri River
bottom near Onawa, Iowa, and near Ames, Iowa.
