Position Title: Language and Cross-Cultural Coordinator (LCC)


Location: Monrovia with time in Kakata
Number of Vacancies: 1
Work Hours: Full Time; 44 hours per week; Typically Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITITES
Functional Area #1 Training and Trainee/Volunteer Support
Shows thorough understanding of adult learning principles
Revises programming documentation (Project Plan, Task Analysis, etc.) regarding the training that is being
carried out to ensure language & cross-cultural training is aligned with technical goals
Responsible for all aspects of Pre-Service Training associated with the language preparation of trainees for
their PC job assignments, including the design, implementation, documentation and evaluation of
competencies and learning objectives, formal language & cross-cultural sessions; and trainee experiential
activities
Facilitates coordination and integration of the technical, health and safety & security areas in the language
curriculum
Develops materials/textbooks and coordinates the order with support from the Training Manager and keeps
inventory of language instruction materials.
Co-designs and facilitates training of trainers (TOT) and Orientation for LCFs, with support from the year
round language and culture facilitators
During PST, meets as needed (at least weekly) with the LCFs to coordinate training activities and for briefings
on upcoming training topics
Coordinates Liberian English and local language instruction for in-service training
Supervises, coordinates and delivers In service language tutoring and Volunteers personal language study
plans
Contributes to the annual Training Status Report submission, as requested by the TM in a timely and
thorough fashion
Participates in the development of a training budget that includes resources necessary to implement the
language and Cross culture training program.
Supports the training team in preparation of budgets, agendas, related materials and schedules for
conferences and training events for Volunteers and project partners related to Language and culture
learning.
Performs other duties as assigned by the MT and TM.
Functional Area #2 LCF Supervision
Oversees the design, implementation and assessment of the language program, making sure it aligns with
core and sector competencies and that it allows trainees to reach established benchmark by the end of PST.
Investigates resources and realities in training communities to incorporate into language & culture sessions
in coordination with LCFs
Provides guidance to LCFs to develop teaching/learning material for language instruction
Manages and documents LCFs performance using PCs performance appraisal process
Coaches new LCFs during PST and provides timely feedback on their performance
Keeps LCFs informed and guides them through administrative processes
Forms trainee groups and assigns LCFs according to their experience and skills and designs rotation plan
Coordinates LCFs in the development of final recommendations to trainees for on-going language learning
after PST
Functional Area #3 LPI Administration
Organizes LPI Workshops as needed in coordination with TM and PC/Washington
Provides LPI training/refreshers to LCFs to ensure thorough understanding of the level trainees need to
reach by the end of PST
Develops all logistics related to the administration of the LPI prior PCTs arrival, Mid & Final PST, and COS

Functional Area #4 Safety and Security


Adheres to Peace Corps policies and protocols, as outlined in PC/Liberias Staff Handbook.
Participates in the training and implementation of the Emergency Communication System and Emergency
Action Plan (EAP). Actively participates in training simulations and actual emergency situations to ensure the
safety and security of Volunteers/trainees.
Identifies and communicates Volunteer/trainee safety and security concerns and issues to the Safety and
Security Manager (SSM) and the Country Director (CD).
Functional Area #5 - Other
Undertakes responsibilities as staff point person for Volunteer committees and projects, as assigned.
As indicated by the DMO, assists with the preparation of the Integrated Programming and Budget Submission
(IPBS) and participates in other Post planning activities.
Other duties as assigned.
POSITION ELEMENTS:
Supervision Received: The Language and Cross-Cultural Coordinator (LCC) reports to the Training Manager.
Travel: The LCC will primarily be stationed at the PC/Liberia Monrovia office with regular travel to Kakata for training
events including overnights. The LCC should expect minimal travel in-country visiting Volunteers about 15% of the
year. Travel may be concentrated during specific times of the year based on the needs of the post. International
travel may be occasional.
Exercise of Judgment: The LCC generally functions independently for routine work assignments and exercises
judgment to prioritize and accomplish work; Seeks guidance from direct supervisor for non-routine work; Seeks
approval from Country Director (CD) before releasing all official materials.
Time Required to Perform Full Range of Duties: The time required for a qualified individual without experience in
Peace Corps to perform fully and adequately duties of this position is one year.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE

Education: Bachelors degree in a field related to linguistics, education or a closely related field
Prior Work Experience: Three years of progressively responsible experience coordinating a language and culture
training program, preferably for US citizens. Three years of experience teaching a foreign language. Demonstrated
prior facilitation and cross cultural training experience, particularly with adults using non-formal education
techniques.
Post Entry Training: On the job and official training in Peace Corps policies and procedures, Peace Corps
programming and training systems (P&T Guidance, TAP, COTE, TSR, VIDA, DOVE, etc.) Peace Corps programming and
training documents (Spanish/Quechua language program, Volunteer Assignment Description (VAD), JSR, project
plans and sector training packages for Peace Corps projects, and Status Reports).
Language Proficiency: Fluent English and preferred fluency in one Liberian local language
Knowledge: Prior knowledge/experience of the US culture and ability to integrate to a bi-cultural workplace.
Abilities and Skills: Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to deal effectively with
Peace Corps local and US staff, Peace Corps Volunteers and trainees, Peace Corps Headquarters staff, project
partners, host families, and others such as service providers. Must demonstrate ability to work collaboratively and
collectively with a diverse group of people. Must have strong training design and facilitation skills. Ability to exercise
sound judgment, render sound advice, and maintain confidentiality and discretion when it comes to problems
related to Volunteers and trainees.
