MINUTES OF THE

REGULAR MEETING OF THE ANTWERP TOWHSHIP BOARD


TUESDAY OCTOBER 09, 2001
7:00 PM
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 PM by Supervisor Daniel J. Ruzick.
The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was given.
Board Members Present: Bruce Cutting, Ronald Derhammer, Virg Hendrickson, and Daniel J. Ruzick
Board Member Absent: Bonnie Osborne
Also Present: 13 guests.
Motion by Cutting, second by Derhammer to approve the agenda as presented.
Motion carried.

All voted in favor.

Motion by Cutting, second by Derhammer to approve the minutes of the September 11, 2001 meeting as
presented.
All voted in favor.
Motion carried.
Action on Planning Commission Recommendations:
a.
Motion by Hendrickson, second by Cutting to approve the site plan request to build a 144 x 60
shop/office area and a 30 x 40 unattached garage building. Changes have been made as recommended
by the Planning Commission for handicap space and additional green belt as indicated by Wade Trim.
Property address is 23664 Red Arrow Hwy., Mattawan MI 49071. Property number is 80-02-001-02000, plate number 2-B8A, section number 1, is currently zoned as Commercial/Industrial.
All voted in
favor.

New Business:
a. Michigan Liquor Control advises that Antwerp Township now has four Liquor Licenses in our
county. One of which is not used and that will be set aside.
b. Motion by Cutting, second by Hendrickson to approve the light district for Birmingham Me adows.
Roll call vote: Hendrickson-yes, Ruzick-yes, Cutting -yes and Derhammer-yes. Motion carried.
c. Motion by Derhammer, and second by Cutting to accept Option #2 at a cost of $4,578.00 from Van
Buren County Planning & Land Use. Quote includes a two (2) year agreement for mapping services
based on $.50 per parcel per year and release of digital data, continued support, and map updates.
Roll call vote. Derhammer-yes, Cutting-yes, Ruzick-yes and Hendrickson-yes.
d. Paving of cemeteries will go back to bidders for further breakdown of prices. Requesting that each
quote on 10 @2 and 10 @2-1/2. The Township Board will look at quotes again at our November
11, 2001 meeting.
e. Resolution of Van Buren County Road Commission has been moved to the Township Board Meeting
November 11, 2001.
f. Discussion on New Years Eve/Day off was moved to November 11, 2001 meeting to give the
Supervisor time to consult with the Treasurer and make sure this is not one of the designated days
she is required to be in to receive tax payment.
g. Letter from Warner Norcross & Judd LLP to Sue E. Johnson-Phillippe for information only.
h. Action on Lawton Fire truck purchase. They have found one coming off line at a cost of $244.000. Cost to
Township $50,000 to $100,000. Motion by Cutting, second by Hendrickson to support the purchase. Roll call
vote: Derhammer-yes, Cutting-yes, Ruzick-yes and Hendrickson-yes.

Recommendation from the committee on Antwerp Township, Antwerp Sunshine Library and Mattawan Fire
Department Bills. Motion by Cutting, second by Derhammer to accept bills for payment in the amount of
$60,174.42.
Roll call vote: Ruzick-yes, Hendrickson-yes, Cutting-yes and Derhammer-yes.
Motion carried.
Motion by Hendrickson, second by Cutting to adjourn.
