ILLUSION
An illusion is a distortion of a sensory perception. Each of the humansenses can be deceived by illusions, but
visual illusions are the most well known. Some illusions are subjective, different people may experience an
illusiondifferently.Illusions are a very nice window into how the brain works, becauseillusions can reveal the
hidden constraints of the visual system in a way thatnormal perception fails to do so.In addition, illusions are
fun, because theycombine both the element of joy as well as the element of surprise. Many
illusions are found in architecture. Many of these were recognizedlong before painting developed beyond its
primitive stages. The classic Greekarchitecture displays a highly developed knowledge of many geometrical
illusionsand the architects of those far-offcenturies carefully worked out details forcounteracting them.
