Should we choose an open source software or proprietary software?

Why is it so hard to make

a choice? An open source software can be modified to user needs, it can be changed. From an
original open source software you could create your version of it. The version that suits your,
your needs. On the other hand proprietary software cannot be modified or changed how you
wish. What you get or buy is what you use. No other option on that, you use the original. It
cannot be changed to suit your needs. You need to adapt.
Linux (OS) is an open source software, where Windows (OS) is not. As an open source
software can be modified its code can be altered. Which means there is a lot of different
versions of Linux (OS), or you could say different Linux distributions. A few more known to
the world are: Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora, Mageia etc. They are all different, some complicated
some simpler depends on your needs, they are also all free to try and use. Whereas Windows
(OS) has it simpler. You have Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10, last three versions.
But, you have to pay to use.
Even though Linux is a free open source software, its not as popular as Windows. With that
be said, most applications on Windows are not compatible with Linux. There are ways around
that problem. Users that know how to and use Linux have made emulators for those kind of
applications. But its not the same experience as an original use. In this particular case its
better to go with Windows, its compatible with applications that are not on Linux, and you
will not need any emulators to run it, just a quick install. Performance also comes to the
question. After some time Windows can become very and pretty much slow. Lagging and
stuttering if not properly maintained. Linux is much quicker as its less demanding and most
distros focus on performance rather than visual appearance. As Linux lack some visual
appearance it lacks user-friendliness. In my opinion Windows is much simpler and more user
friendly system. Most of new Windows users are familiar with it. How Windows is more
popular in the world it has become familiar to everyone. Whereas Linux is hard at first, it
becomes easier to use with time.
Security matters the most. Because Windows is more popular, more populated system than
Linux it is far less secure. Virtually all software is written for Windows, and this also applies
malware. Windows machines outnumbers the Linux machines and with that more cyberattacks will be directed to Windows. Most will probably succeed. While most of applications
are not compatible with Linux it is much more secure. One of the most effective ways Linux
secures his system is by privileges. When the virus gets inside the Linux machine its
destructiveness is limited and restricted mainly to files and folders on individual machine.
Linux doesnt give full administration (root) access to the users by default which is opposite
than Windows. With that be said, Linux is more secure system.
It is hard to choose what system to use. Open source or proprietary software. In this particular
case, if you primarily work in software, Linux is the better solution. Its free, it can be altered
and it has a reputation as a tool in coding.
But if you need more systems for more people to use Windows is more convenient. Its more
simple, familiar and compatible with virtually all software.
