A very good morning to our beloved principal, Hj. Shaqir bin Shaib, dedicated
teachers and fellow friend. In conjunction with the National Day celebrations, I am
honoured to present my speech entitled How to Show Our Patriotism for Malaysia.
First of all, we should respect the national anthem. We should stand erect
and appreciate the lyric as they are being sung or played. We should hold our head
up high and sing with great spirit.
Second, we should learn the significance of the Jalur Gemilang; ots colours,
star and stripes. Let it wave proudly above our rooftops during national
celebrations. Only then, can we come to appreciate our country.
Then, read about the heroes who have served the country, for example Tun
Dr. Mahathir Mohammad and Tun Hussein Onn. Feel proud of their contributions and
aspire to be like them.
Next, learn all you can about our colourful past. Visit historical sites and
heritage towns. You will beam with pride when you see the wonderful legacy of our
wondrous country.
I hope this short speech would have made your heart burn with fervor for our
beloved country.
Thank you.

Read the following diary entry. Then, answer questions (a)-(j).

It was a sad day for me. I should have guessed it when dad, instead of mum came
for me a t school. He was too early. I was halfway through my science lesson, my
favourite subject.
Dad had this serious look on his face, not at all his usual cheery self. He didnt
even talk much. He has been hospitalized. The news hit me badly. Dad tried his best
to break the news gently. He knew how dearly I loved grandmother. I was stunned
for a while as the news sank in. Then, I told myself that I have to be brave for
grandmother. Dad took me to the hospital afterwards. The journey was all a blurry
as memories played in my mind.
At the ward, I walked u slowly to her bedside, touched her hand gently and
whispered, Grandma, its me, Sarah, Im here, She managed a smile and my heart
skipped a beat. At least, she was conscious and could still recognize me.
That was a month ago. Since then, I have been at her bedside, every day. She
is making good progress says the doctor. Sometimes, I read to her and sometimes,
we just chat. Sometimes I just watch her and listen to the rhythmic clicks of her
knitting needles.
