Indian Standard
SPECIFICATION FOR
MODERATE HEAT DUTY F\RECLAY
R.EFRACTORIES, GROUP A
(

Fourth Revision )

0.

FOREWORD

0.1 This

Indian
Standard
( Fourth Revision ) was adopted
by the
Indian
Standards
Institution
on 21 April 1983, after the draft finalized
by the Refractories
Sectional
Committee
had been approved
by the
Structural
and Metals Division Council.
0.2 Fireclay refractories are classified into high heat duty and moderate
the latter being sub-divided
into t\vo groups,
heat duty refractories,
namely, Group A and Group B on the baTis of certain
well established
This
standard
deals with moderate
heat duty fireclay
properties.
refractories
of Group
A.
0.3 This standard
was first issued in 1949 and subsequently
revised in
1953, 1958 and 1967.
In this revision an additional
variety of moderate
heat duty fireclay refractories
has been included
and the requirements
for this have been specified
separately
as Type 2 refractories.
The
spalling
resistance
test has been retained in thisstandard
as an optional
requirement
for both Type 1 and Type 2 refractories.
0.4 It is to be pointed out that although
a riumber
of tests have been
prescribed
in this standard,
it is not intended
that all of them should be
carried out in each case, as by a judicious
application
of some of the
tests it. should
be possible to judge the quality of bricks in a given lot.
However, the tests to be conducted
in each case would depend upon the
service conditions
for which the bricks are required.
Purchasers
are, /
therefore, advised to indicate these conditions
at the time of placing
an
indent or order.
0.5 This standard
kkeps in view the manufacturing
followed in the country in this field.
