Even in the most developed stage of human life, the same illusion prevails in th

e form of many isms and divides the loving relation with the Lord and thereby di
vides the loving relation between man and man. By hearing the subject matter of
Srimad-Bhagavatam this false complexity of materialism is removed, and real peac
e in society begins, which politicians aspire for so eagerly in so many politica
l situations. The politicians want a peaceful situation between man and man, and
nation and nation, but at the same time, because of too much attachment for mat
erial domination, there is illusion and fearfulness. Therefore the politicians'
peace conferences cannot bring about peace in society. It can only be done by he
aring the subject matter described in the Srimad-Bhagavatam about the Supreme Pe
rsonality of Godhead Sri Krsna. The foolish politicians may go on holding peace
and summit conferences for hundreds of years, but they will fail to achieve succ
ess. Until we reach the stage of reestablishing our lost relation with Krsna, th
e illusion of accepting the body as the self will prevail, and thus fearfulness
will also prevail.

Actually the spiritual spark living entities have no material names or forms. Bu
t in order to fulfill their desire to lord it over the material energy of materi
al forms and names, they are given a chance for such false enjoyment, and at the
same time they are given a chance to understand the real position through the r
evealed scriptures. The foolish and forgetful living being is always busy with f
alse forms and false names. Modern nationalism is the culmination of such false
names and false forms. Men are mad after false name and form. The form of body o
btained under certain conditions is taken up as factual, and the name also taken
bewilders the conditioned soul into misusing the energy in the name of so many
"isms." The scriptures, however, supply the clue for understanding the real posi
tion, but men are reluctant to take lessons from the scriptures created by the L
ord for different places and times. For example, the Bhagavad-gita is the guidin
g principle for every human being, but by the spell of material energy they do n
ot take care to carry out the programs of life in terms of the Bhagavad-gita. Sr
imad-Bhagavatam is the post-graduate study of knowledge for one who has thorough
ly understood the principles of the Bhagavad-gita. Unfortunately people have no
taste for them, and therefore they are under the clutches of maya for repetition
of birth and death.

The next symptom of the age of Kali is that principles of religion, which are al
l spotlessly white, like the white lotus flower, will be attacked by the uncultu
red sudra population of the age. They may be descendants of brahmana or ksatriya
forefathers, but in the age of Kali, for want of sufficient education and cultu
re of Vedic wisdom, such a sudra-like population will defy the principles of rel
igion, and persons who are religiously endowed will be terrified by such men. Th
ey will declare themselves as adherents of no religious principles, and many "is
ms" and cults will spring up in Kali-yuga only to kill the spotless bull of reli
gion. The state will be declared to be secular, or without any particular princi
ple of religion, and as a result there will be total indifference to the princip
les of religion. The citizens will be free to act as they like, without respect
for sadhu, sastra and guru. The bull standing on one leg indicates that the prin
ciples of religion are gradually diminishing. Even the fragmental existence of r

eligious principles will be embarrassed by so many obstacles as if in the trembl

ing condition of falling down at any time.

he change required is a change in consciousness, not in the body. Unfortunately,

in this fallen age, people are concerned with the body, not with the soul. They
have invented so many "isms" pertaining to the body only, not to the soul.
In the modern age of democracy there are so many government representatives voti
ng for legislation. Every day they bring out a new law. But because these laws a
re only mental concoctions manufactured by inexperienced conditioned souls, they
cannot give relief to human society. Formerly, although the kings were autocrat
s, they strictly followed the principles laid down by great sages and saintly pe
rsons. There were no mistakes in ruling over the country, and everything went pe
rfectly. The citizens were completely pious, the king levied taxes legitimately,
and therefore the situation was very happy. At the present moment the so-called
executive heads are more or less selected from materially ambitious persons who
simply look after their own personal interests; they have no knowledge of the s
astras. In other words, the executive heads are fools and rascals in the strict
sense of the terms, and the people in general are sudras. This combination of fo
ols and rascals and sudras cannot bring about peace and prosperity in this world
. Therefore we find periodic upheavals in society in the forms of battles, commu
nal riots and fratricidal quarrels. Under these circumstances, not only are the
leaders unable to lead the people toward liberation, but they cannot even give t
hem peace of mind. In Bhagavad-gita it is stated that anyone who lives on concoc
ted ideas, without reference to the sastras, never becomes successful and does n
ot attain happiness or liberation after death.
