The Cummins engine type NT855-G2 was produced some years ago using the AMBAC all electronic
governor which controlled the engine speed by regulating the low pressure fuel delivery to the injectors, the fuel
was delivered from the low pressure fuel delivery pump.
This speed regulation required the control of fuel by a small valve which position which was controlled from a
spring return actuator. This type of control was used before the inception of the EFC integrated actuator inside the
fuel pump.
AMBAC actuator part No: AGD130-E4 and integrated valve is not produced any more and can be replaced using
a GAC actuator and integrated low pressure fuel valve type: ADB120E4-NL.
Similarly, the old style AMBAC electronic governor controller part No: CU673C-023 is no longer made and is
replaced with a GAC all electronic controller type ESD 5500E. This controller has the ability to set a start fuel and
reduce smoke on starting.

The fuel delivery pipe with the old right angle fitting removed
and re-installed into the new GAC actuator fuel inlet.
The overflow excess fuel pipe fitting is also removed from the
old AMBAC actuator and re-installed into the new GAC fuel
valve overflow exit.
This again is a swaged cone connection and great care is
taken in removing this fitting. Sometimes the pipe has to be
shortened and a pipe coupling is used for this extension.
The fuel delivery fitting has to be changed to a newer NPT stainless type and this has a right angle extension.
The piping from the rear of the actuator is a flexible pipe which is then connected to a shorter reduced section
to the original swaged cone pipe.

The positioning of the GAC actuator is slightly different to the old AMBAC and so a new base plate is required to
allow the same position for the fuel intake pipe fitting and overspill return.
The 6 pin right angle electrical connection to the actuator is the same as the old unit but care must be taken to
make sure that the internal soldered connections are acceptable for the new service life of the governing system.
All NPT and coned connections must be tightened and made secure before the engine is started and tested
under load.
The old governor AMBAC controller is replaced and a new GAC control box installed. It is always recommended
to install the correct speed pickup wiring and also the actuator wiring to the new GAC controller.
It is recommended that a new speed pickup be installed with new cable and connections to the GAC controller.
