Cora Howe Research Paper

This research paper is about Cora Howe School. Cora Howe School is an
elementary through high school. This school has been open since 1970. Cora Howe
is a special needs school. There is about ten kids in each classroom. There is about
two teachers in each classroom. Each teacher teaches at least one teacher per
subject. After each subject the kids get a ten minute break. Within in this ten
minute break they can get on the computer or play a game. Each subject is an hour
but is split up into two parts. The only subject that is not an hour is spelling.
Spelling is only thirty minutes.

Special Needs is what Cora Howe School focusses on. There is not any
regular education kids at this school. At first this was an elementary school. It
opened in 1970. It closed in 2000.

Before Cora Howe was a school it was a garden. It was owned by a lady
named Cora Howe. In 1970 it was moved to Cheek wood and the school was built.
The garden is still there today. A lot of people go to see it.
They officially opened the school in the fall of 1970. There mascot was the
bear cub. There school colors were blue, green, and white. They had different
objective every year to improve the students education. They called it the Cora
Howe Project.

They did that until 2000. In 2000 they closed down the school. For nine years no
one was in the school. In 2009 it was changed to a special needs school. It was
Madison Special Education School. They moved because the building was too big.
The reason why it is still called Cora Howe is because when the lady Cora Howe
made the school on her property she wanted the school to stay that name. The staff

of fall 2009 was very small. The principal was LuAnn Seale. The secretary was
and still is Barbara McEwen. The general assistant was Melanie Yant. There were
twelve teachers and twelve para professionals. There were fifty children between
fifth and twelfth grade.

The current principal Mr. Kristopher Winfrey has twenty one teachers and twenty
six para professionals. There is about one-hundred student at the school now. It is
Pre-Kindergarten to Twelfth grade. There is a bigger population than 2009. They
are getting new kids every day.
Most of the kids are split up by grade but some are split up by disability.
They have an autism room. This room is for kids that have a really bad case of
autism and they cant be in the same classroom as the other kids. The kids in the
autism room dont do much. They usually play or lay down in this room. They
dont feel like they are capable to learn anything.

This research paper is about Cora Howe School. It is an elementary through

high school. It is also a special needs school. They have a lot to offer for these kids
that go there. They try to get them back to their zoned schools. This is a good
school for a special needs child to go to.
