What is a native species?

An organism which is indigenous to a given region or ecosystem.
What is an introduced species?
Known as an exotic species, an organism that is not indigenous to a given location,
but instead has been accidentally or deliberately introduced to a new location by
humans or by natural means.
How did they get here?
Ballast water, canals, recreational boaters/ships, accidentally imported in boxes, on
plants, etc., pet release, aquaculture, intentional introductions. Intentional
introductions are introduced by scientists to decrease the population of native and
non-native species, for sport and aesthetic value.
