Saving your Elluminate or Blackboard Collaborate recorded sessions

Why?
As part of the migration to the SUNY ITEC contract, OIT will be unable to transition or migrate any Elluminate recordings.
If you have a recording that needs to be saved, you will need to use another software tool to save and download the
recording. This tool is Blackboard Collaborate Publish. All recordings remaining after December 1, 2012 will be deleted
from the server. With Publish, you can save your recordings locally, giving you freedom to embed and/or play
recordings wherever you like.

What are these formats?

1. Unplugged Recordings
With Publish, you can convert an Elluminate or Blackboard Collaborate recording to a standalone version (a .jar
file) that can be viewed from your desktop or laptop without being connected to a Blackboard Collaborate
server or the Internet. Unplugged Recordings look the most like your actual session and preserve the
interactivity such as text chat, web transfer and web tour. Note: This format may require the end user to save
the recording first and then open. This format is recommended if you dont mind the recording being
downloaded.
2. Multimedia (Movie) Files
With Publish, you can convert Elluminate and Blackboard Collaborate recordings to any of the following
multimedia file formats: (Note: The content types included with these formats are Audio, Application Sharing
and Whiteboard activity only. These formats do not include the participant window and text chat.)

AVI (Audio Video Interleave)

FLV (Flash video)
H.264 (MPEG-4 video with H.264 compression) (Recommended format. This allows for viewing on
most devices such as computers, smartphones, etc.)
MOV (QuickTime video)
MP4 (MPEG-4 video)
WMV (Windows Media Video)
MRF (Media Recording File)

3. Audio Files
Publish enables you to convert Elluminate and Blackboard Collaborate recordings to any of the following audio
file formats:

MP3 (MPEG-3 audio 32 or 64 kbps)

M4A (MPEG-4 audio)
Ogg Vorbis (open-source format)
uncompressed WAV files (Waveform, uncompressed audio)
