DEMO OVERVIEW
INTRODUCTION
This document and its included script introduce you to the Position Actions and the new
features included in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2
When you complete this document and demo script you will be able to:
Describe how Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 provides position based requests and edits
through the position action functionality.
Setup workflow and enable the position based requests in Microsoft Dynamics AX R2
Describe the benefits of Position Actions as they work with overall employee processes.
AUDIENCE
The included script should be used to demonstrate the value of Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2
to a business decision maker (BDM). The executives that you are presenting to will find value in
this script if they are challenged with:
HR Manager
HR Assistant
Administrator
The following role examples represent key decisions makers, selection process personnel
and influencers and/or evaluators.

Managers have requested new positions in Consulting. Brooke is working with the individual

requests to make sure the new requests go through the proper workflow and all the right
individuals are involved. During this expansion, reporting relationships and the organization will
also be updated. Some of these changes will require approval and Claire will manage this
process.
Note: When demonstrating this functionality to clients, manipulate the scenario to fit key pain
points they are experiencing. A one or two hour discovery session may help you tailor the demo
to make it more effective.
DEMO PRESET
CONFIGURATION
Make sure that the virtual machine (VM) is up and running that you have logged on. This
script was written to work with the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2 VM.
All users are in the CONTOSO domain and the password is pass@word1. So if you are to
log on as Brooke then you would use CONTOSO\System Administrator with the password
as pass@word1. Login to USMF Company.
Navigate to: System Administration > Setup > Licensing > License Configuration. Expand
the Human Resources 1 node and mark the Personnel Actions check box. Select OK and
synchronize the system. After it finishes synchronizing (about five minutes), close and
reopen AX so that the action-related forms will appear in the HR module.
Start workflow processing: Go to AOT (Ctrl+Shift+W); Expand Forms and then select
Tutorial_WorkflowProcessor; Right-click and then select Open; Click the Start button;
Minimize the windows (but do not close them).
The script has been written to minimize role changes and the role changes are called out
in the following script.
Notice that an unlimited number of workflows can be created. For the purposes of this demo
onlyMicrosoft
a single
workflow

configured. For example: FTE position requests may require

CONCLUSION
This demonstration has taken you through the major capabilities of Position Actions.
1
Position Actions provides the ability to define workflow for creating and updating
position information.
Give you control over the process with available to fill and date effective changes.
Optionally this scenario can be modified for Budget approval. Position budget
information may be entered via position actions and sent to the budget manager for
approval. Personalize the demo script to meet the requirements.
