Angelica Schuyler
The Schuyler Sisters

'We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.
And when I meet Thomas Jefferson Im a compel him to include women in the sequel!

The Schuyler sisters are my favorite character in the show. The were kind of the original
Kardashians of the 1700s in some ways. Because of their elevated status in society, they were
well read and learned. Lin Manuel Miranda credits this as the reason they would have read
Common Sense by common pain, which is referenced in the lyric. He goes on to say that,
although they could not participate in the same ways men could, the sisters were very interested
in politics. Angelica was eventually introduced to Jefferson in Paris in 1787. The two became
friends, and exchanged letters in which Jefferson expressed his affection and respect for her. But
most scholars doubt that they ever discussed politics: The future president didnt think it was an
appropriate topic for women, writing in one letter that the tender breasts of ladies were not
formed for political convulsion The line I chose echoes a larger theme of independence that
exists throughout the entire song. These are strong, and independent women, and Miranda makes
sure to make that very clear with this first song they appear in. WERK!
