Respectfortruthandthepublic'srighttoinformationareoverridingprinciplesforalljournalists.In

pursuanceoftheseprinciples,journalistscommitthemselvestoethicalandprofessionalstandards.All
membersoftheUnionengagedingathering,transmitting,disseminatingandcommentingonnewsand
informationshallobservethefollowingCodeofEthicsintheirprofessionalactivities:

(a)Theyshallreportandinterpretthenewswithscrupuloushonestybystrivingtodiscloseallessential
factsandbynotsuppressingrelevant,availablefactsordistortingbywrongorimproperemphasis.

(b)Theyshallnotplaceunnecessaryemphasisongender,race,sexualpreference,religiousbelief,
maritalstatusorphysicalormentaldisability.

(c)Inallcircumstancestheyshallrespectallconfidencesreceivedinthecourseoftheiroccupation.

(d)Theyshallnotallowpersonalintereststoinfluencethemintheirprofessionalduties.

(e)Theyshallnotallowtheirprofessionaldutiestobeinfluencedbyanyconsideration,giftoradvantage
offeredand,whereappropriate,shalldiscloseanysuchoffer.

(f)Theyshallnotallowadvertisingorcommercialconsiderationstoinfluencethemintheirprofessional
duties.

(g)Theyshallusefairandhonestmeanstoobtainnews,pictures,films,tapesanddocuments.

(h)Theyshallidentifythemselvesandtheiremployersbeforeobtaininganyinterviewforpublicationor
broadcast.

(i)Theyshallrespectprivategriefandpersonalprivacyandshallhavetherighttoresistcompulsionto
intrudeonthem.

(j)Theyshalldotheirutmosttocorrectanypublishedorbroadcastinformationfoundtobeharmfully
inaccurate.

AbreachofthisCodeshallbeabreachoftheUnion'sRulesandthusmaygiverisetodisciplinary
proceduresundertheRules.Ifamemberisdismissedfromemploymentorotherwisedisadvantagedby
anemployer,andabreachofthisCodeisclaimedbytheemployerasjustificationforthedismissalor
disadvantage,thentheUnion,followingproperandadequateinquiry,andifitissatisfiedtoareasonable
