Web browser restrictions while using Storage Navigator

It is a best practice not to use your web browser menus, shortcuts, or other options when logged

If you use Back, Next, or web browser shortcut keys such as F5 and Esc, you will be
logged out of Storage Navigator and any settings will be canceled.

Configuring the VSP Fiber Channel Ports

The Hitachi VSP is a very flexible platform which provides the ability to support
various fibre channel attachment options. These options are:

Host Attachment
Replication
Initiator

Replication
Target
External
Storage

Host Attachment (Target)

By default the FC ports on the VSP are configured as Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop
and to Auto negotiate the network speed. To ensure optimal configuration for
performance the ports should be set for the port speed of the switch port which the
VSP port is attached. Considering that the VSP is being attached to a switched
fabric SAN the network topology must be set to point to point (P to P).

This step provides the ability to name the associated task. Leave default or
provide details for new task name and click Apply.

Replication Initiator (Initiator)

Logical Device (LDEV) Creation

1. Select the Parity Groups container to view existing Parity Groups which
contain LDEVs.

2. Selecting the Create LDEV Tab can be done even whether the Resource
Locked or Unlocked status is indicated. Select the appropriated Parity Group,
click the Create LDEV Button.

3. Enter the appropriate information regarding the LDEV creation. In the

example below for LDEVS are being created in the Parity Group with the
following stipulations: 102.4 GB each, Named LS-Group-10 1 thru 13, Starting
at CU:LDEV - C0:00, we would simple fill in the blanks accordingly, then click
the Add button.

1 Entering a logical name for the LDEV is vital to the comprehension of LDEV
ownership over the lifecycle of the LDEV. As LDEVs are migrated to different HDP
Pools, any prefixed CU:DEV pattern will be lost and the logical name will be required
for identification of ownership.

We created the following:

-->

4. After the creation, you could select Change LDEV Settings to make any
changes you wanted.

5. Clicking Next Provides one more Chance to add or remove LDEVs to the group
while clicking Finish takes you right to the . Make necessary then Click Next.

Creating HDP Pool

1. Open the Storage Navigator Information Panel, select Actions->Pool->Create
Pools.

2. Click the Select Pool VOLs button.

3. Select the appropriate LDEVs which will be used as Pool Volumes when
creating the HDP Pool from the left pane and click Add. Select OK when all
Pool Volumes have been selected.

4. Enter a description of the Pool under the Pool Name filed followed by a
numerical value which can be used optionally to describe the pool. The Initial
Pool Id will be automatically generated by the VSP while the Subscription
Limit should be set between 100% and 120% depending on the pool and
amount of over provisioning which is acceptable 2. Select ADD when satisfied
with the configuration.
2 Current WB configuration does not utilize oversubscription therefore value should
be set to 100%.

5. Upon the successful pre-configuration of the Pool Click Next to continue on to

creating LDEVs or select Finish if completing the initial configuration of the
pool is sufficient. If creating LDEVs continue to next step otherwise move on
to next task.

Creating DP-VOLs within the HDP Pool

1. Select the DP-VOL capacity which will be allocated to hosts and the number of
DP-VOLs to create.

Further options allow for the configuration of the LKDC:CU:DEV options as

well as other settings. Click Finish when completed.

2. Click OK to activate the Pool ad DP-VOL creation.

3. Confirm the configuration one last time and click Apply.

4. The task will enter the Tasks list and process in the background.

Removing DP-VOLS from HDP Pool

1. Expand the Pools Container and select the applicable Pool to have its DP-VOLs
removed. Select the DP-VOLs to be removed.

2. Select Actions ->Delete LDEVs

3. Review DP-VOLs to be removed and click Apply to continue.

4. Click OK to continue.

5. The Task can be viewed for completion in the Tasks container.

Expanding the HDP Pool

1. Select the Pools Container click the Pool to be expanded.

continue.

3. The progress of the activity can be viewed from the Tasks container.

Restore Pool Volume

Upon removing an LDEV from an HDP Pool the volume will be blocked and must be
recovered.
1. Open the Logical Device container and select the Blocked device.

2. Click Actions -> Restore LDEVs.

3. Review the configuration of the device to be restored and click Apply.

4. Select OK to recover the device.

5. The progress of the activity can be viewed from the Tasks container.

Deleting HDP Pool
