North Countrys Trace

Simonson wedges his way
through a pair of Scobey
defenders in his drive to the
bucket this past Friday night
in Hinsdale. Trace, a junior
from Whitewater, led the
Mavericks with 15 points,
but it was the Spartans that
would eventually prevail
59-46. The Mavs held a 2521 halftime lead but were
outscored 21-10 in the third
quarter, thanks in part to
the hot shooting of Spartan
senior Landen Kilgore who
lit up the nets with 19 points.
Hinsdale seniors Cache
Younkin and Logan McColly
poured in 14 and 12 points.
The Spartans, both the
boys and girls, had a pair of
successful trips on Highway
2, sweeping the Scotties
in Glasgow on Thursday
night and the Mavericks
in Hinsdale on Friday
night. Two very solid ball
teams, the Scobey girls are
undefeated at 6-0 while the
Scobey boys are 5-1, their
lone loss being to Frazer.
The North Country boys are
5-3 overall (including a win
over the Scotties) while the
North Country girls are 3-5
overall.

Plan to attend the first
annual Hi-Line Sportsmens
fundraising banquet on
Saturday, Feb. 18 for a chance

dinner will be served at
6 p.m., and a rousing live
auction will follow.
Single tickets cost $30,
couples tickets run $50, and
sponsor couples tickets cost
$200. Or you can gather
eight of your friends and
buy a regular table for $700
or a sponsor table for $800.

OBITUARY

Evelynn Garcia

Looking inside

Proficient passer Bailey Funk looks to pass the ball inside

during North Countrys game with Scobey. The Mavericks very
nearly knocked off the undefeated Spartans; they had a 44-36
lead with under four minutes left in the ball game. But the girls
in blue didnt buckle under the pressure, and with the game tied
at 46-all & seven ticks left on the clock, drove the length of the
court with Kortney Nelson putting up an attempt from the right
wing just before the buzzer sounded. Her shot didnt fall, but
she was fouled. With not time left on the clock and her standing
all by her lonesome on the entire basketball court, she missed
her first free throw, but knocked the second one down: Scobey
47, North Country 46! Kortney is a freshman spark plug from
Opheim, daughter of Kevin and Tami Nelson, who are assistant
coaches for the Spartans programs.
