India and Israel have not been friends since a long time. It was only after the
Cold War and the fall of the Soviet Union that India and Israel had formed
relations. Diplomatic relations were formally established in 1992. From then
on, Israel and India share a warm and cozy relationship. They have extended
cooperation in various fields. Military is the core focus of the Indo -Israeli
relationship. Cooperation in many other fields also is quite s trong especially
when it comes to Research and Development.

As we see, both countries have mutually benefitted from this relationship.

Both have increased trade, development and growth.

Stronger Indo-Israeli relations benefit them economically. New markets are

opened and the consumers now have more choice. There is more trade
between the countries and they flourish economically.

India and Israel face a common enemy which is Islamic terrorism. To counter
this effectively, both countries will need to cooperat e and strengthen the ties
between their intelligence agencies, military and other armed forces. They
need to train jointly and research together on effective weapons and
techniques to handle this threat. If both countries have the will to make this
happen, then they can get rid of this enemy easily.

Indian and Israeli cooperation in the field of space research has seen many
innovations. They can pool up their knowledge and create better satellites,
rockets, space vehicles etc. and enhance space exploration and speed up the
process.

Both countries need to extend more cooperation in agriculture. Israel has very
little arable farmland and India is unable to fully reap enough food from its
fields. Israel is already times ahead wi th their agricultural research. Israel is
able to comfortably feed its entire population on the little land they cultivate
and even have an exportable surplus. Israel is also a world leader in production
of milk and other vegetables with that little arable farm land. India can adopt
many techniques and technologies from Israel and improve the output of food
crops in India.

We have seen the many innovations when Israel and India extends close
cooperation in the fields of science and Research and Development. They can
engineer new products and solutions to various problems and market it to the
whole world jointly.

There are a few bottlenecks to their relationship. However, if more

cooperation is extended, then their relationship would help them accelerate
their growth and development mutuall y. Therefore, India and Israel need to
strengthen their ties.
