Instincts in the Food and Beverage
Industry

From the desk of

GMD
Assalamualaikum warahmatullah hiwabarakatuh
2016 has been an exciting and eventful year for
the Bank. All planned strategies were executed
with precision and the Bank is expected to
achieve its intended results.
The
aggressive
promotional
campaign
undertaken in the third quarter of the year
and the commitment shown by all employees
contributed significantly toward achieving the
approvals target.
2016 also saw the Bank taking several important
initiatives in improving the standard of customer
service. In September 2016, the Bank launched
the 4SME Engagement Mobile Application,
enabling a speedy update of clients progress.
In addition to this, the Bank continues to
emphasise on reaching the unserved and
underserved SMEs by embarking on a nationwide outreach programs. Conducted at 15
venues, these programs attracted more than
3,000 entrepreneurs.
The testimony of our endless efforts in ensuring the
success of SME entrepreneurs was given its rightful
recognition when SME Bank was accorded with
the Top SME Supporter Award in the Platinum
Business Awards 2016 event organised by the
SME Association of Malaysia in October 2016.

All the efforts taken in 2016 will be the base for

us to go into 2017 with a renewed commitment
in nurturing and developing the countrys SMEs.
Taking the RM100 million allocation announced
by the Prime Minister in the 2017 Budget, more
comprehensive and structured initiatives will be
undertaken to ensure the objective of making
2017 as the Start-Ups and Promotion Year of SMEs
is achieved.
As we are now nearing the end of 2016, I would
like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a
Happy New Year and may 2017 turn out to be a
successful and meaningful year for all of us.
Thank you.

Reaching Out To Customers

2

016 is a year where SME Bank puts its

focus on customer engagement activities.
Starting from September 2016, Customer
Service Management Dept. had organised the
several Customer Open Days. The Bank took a
targeted marketing approach whereby only
four locations were selected namely Seremban

allows the Banks officers to reach out to more
prospects and existing customers in a timely
and more personalized manner. Through this

Benefits of Fintech for SMEs

SMEs rely on more manual processes and
often do everything themselves but through
the development of Fintech, all the traditional
ways of doing things could change. For those
willing to invest in Fintech especially in data,
payments and software technologies, a more
efficient and cost-effective business model
coupled with competitive advantage will be
the result.
To simplify things, we will look at the benefits of
Fintech from big data, financing and software.
Big data has been recognized as the heart
of Fintech. By analyzing thousands or millions
of raw data and simplify the data into more
presentable information, big data will help SMEs
to have a better understanding their customers
and target them more efficiently. Fusionex and
OR Technologies are among the companies in
Malaysia that offers big data analytics services.

The Fintech evolution also brings along the

emergence of new tools and solutions in
term making payment faster and efficient
for example through digital currencies and
biometric security. More recently, proposals
have been raised to increase payment and
data security by reading and interpreting
consumers spending history. These and other
security initiatives offer the opportunity to
push services out to smartphones and other
devices without increasing the associated risk.
Innovations such as mobile wallets, P2P mobile
payments, foreign exchange and remittances,
real time payments, digital currency solutions
and many other new innovations are now
penetrating the market at a faster rate.
Access to financing are crucial for the SMEs
and prior to the year 2008, SMEs turned mostly

But, currently, the SME-bank

Fintech lenders entering the

factoring are among the real
choice for SMEs when it comes
to financial services and
there has never been such
an efficient system like what
have been offer now by the

Big data analytics, payment

small slice of fintech potential
for SMEs and they should
