Topic: How Transgenders View Their Bodies

One widely accepted view in todays society is that ones biological makeup determines
ones gender identity. If one is born male, then he is expected to identify himself as male and
engage in acts of masculinity such as keeping feelings of pain to ones self, being protectors, etc.
The same holds true for women who are also expected to meet societys expectations of them to
accept and act their gender. Many people assume that everyone engages in the actions expected
of their gender, but transgenders, a group of people whose gender identity does not align with
societal expectations of their physical appearances or behavior, prove otherwise.
The purpose of this study is to gain insights from the transgender community on how
they perceive their bodies and to provide an analysis on how they view themselves as a part of
the society. The study would only be limited to transgenders inside the UP Diliman Campus. The
researchers will gather data by conducting interviews and immersing with transgenders and
transgender organizations inside the university.
