Introduction

Advantages
1 No Resonance Problem
2 Can Eliminates Any Harmonic (No Tuning)
3 Reliable Power Compensation
4 Reliable Operation
5 Improve Performance

Drawbacks
1 More Expensive
2 Complex Control System
3 Limit Bandwidth Of Active Device

Types Of Filter
1 Active Filter
2 Passive Filter
3 Unified Power Quality Controller

Principle Of Operation
In this operation 3 bus wind energy system is consider ,bus 1 and bus3have
Permenant magnet synchronous generator of 3 kw capacity .Genrator output changes
with respect different wind velocity and loading condition(when nonlinear load such
as adjustable speed drive ,battery charging system e.t.c), due variable frequency it
gives the flickering power hence oscillting generator output power is delivered to the
load at bus 2 . shunt active filter is connect in parallel across the line which employ
pulse width modulation based scheme & inject the reactive power in the system.
which helps to keep the constant frequency hence lower reactance which is required
to get constant power system and reduce the harmonic occurring along with the
improvement in the power factor.

Conclusion
conventional SAF with traditional PWM control is simple and
gives required output level but with less ripple in the output.
Using shunt active filter in WES through reduction in harmonics
inhance the power factor to standard level.
